  • POSITION SUMMARY

    This position is responsible for supervising staff who provide daily therapeutic care and programming according to agency policy and governing body standards and requirements.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Employees are expected to be awake and alert while working.

    • Supervise program activity which will lead to the attainment of goals described within treatment plans
    • Supervise and evaluate the work of residential staff assigned to residential programs.
    • Work shifts on the unit as assigned, which could include variable shifts (several days and several evenings each week)
    • Work as one of the staff within the staff-to-youth ratio on the unit
    • Work as a role model for newer, less experienced staff
    • Maintain records as required
    • Participate in training of residential staff
    • Actively seek out training opportunities for all staff relevant to the work on the unit
    • Participate in residential staff meetings
    • Understand and apply the general framework and expected outcomes of the various treatment models used with the youth,
    • Maintain safety and an environment that supports youth to be safe and make progress on the unit
    • Make the unit a family-friendly place, where family members feel welcome and activities are planned that include family members. Teach, and then ensure, that staff persons treat family members with respect and listen to their concerns, document them, and pass them on to the appropriate clinician and administrator.
    • Teach and ensure all staff members treat all youth, family members, collaterals, neighbors, and the general public with respect and dignity at all times. Everyone should be spoken to in a calm, rational voice, without rancor.
    • Maintain the physical order of the building and therapeutic environment of the units
    • Develop and maintain schedules within the assigned campus residential unit
    • Participate in the evaluation of youth referred to the Agency for residential care
    • Participate in the appropriate on call system
    • Participate in the financial responsibilities of the residential unit in accordance with established guidelines
    • Participate in and organize program and agency wide special events and services
    • Oversee and/or transport clients for medical, mental health, and other essential needs
    • Work with clinical staff to coordinate the implementation of treatment plans in the milieu
    • Assist in crisis intervention as needed

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Position Description

    Residential Assistant Director

    Directly supervises non-exempt employees. Supervises and evaluates the work of individuals; has responsibility for subordinate performance and output. Provides supportive success-focused supervision to direct reports.

    LEADERSHIP

    Provides guidance and/or consultation to other staff through direction, review, and feedback on tasks.

    SUPERVISION RECEIVED

    Direction: receives guidance with respect to general objectives; in the majority of tasks and projects assigned, determine methods, work sequence, scheduling, and how to achieve objectives of assignments; operate within specific policy guidelines. May require approval before proceeding with next steps.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    Requires an Associates degree plus three years of experience, Bachelors degree preferred, OR HS plus at least five years of experience required.

    Related experience with vulnerable populations/older adolescent population is required.

    Must have supervisory experience or demonstrated ability to manage a residential unit.

    CERTIFICATION / LICENSURE

    Required to maintain TCI certification.

    Must have valid drivers license and meet agency insurability standards for using agency vehicles and transporting youth.

    KNOWLEDGE

    Thorough knowledge of a specialized area or technical field (such as Residential Care, Child Care, Information Technology, Food Service, Nursing, Accounting, Industrial Arts/Maintenance, or other specialized area), which involves thorough skills knowledge plus the application of technical skills.

    COMMUNICATION and CONTACT with OTHERS

    Requires effective communication skills. Communication involves interpersonal contacts with clients/families or programs/departments to coordinate service, treatment, or other work. Frequent telephone contact or written correspondence inside the program/department and/or outside the organization involving communication of standard procedures or discussions of non-controversial matters. Regularly training/teaching clients, customers, or new employees in standardized programs or procedures.

    FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

    Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

    TECHNOLOGY SKILLS

    Basic computer skills including e-mail word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT
