The special education teacher is the classroom instructional leader of the team of staff and classroom of students. This role is responsible for developing grade level lesson plans and implementing daily academics for a class of no more than 10 students. The ability to lead and manage staff, provide academic oversight and supervision, provide direct academic instruction, and maintain a professional demeanor at all times is critical for this position.
This position will also collaborate with school divisions and other service providers as needed. This position will create the academic plan for the classroom and each student based on Virginia Standards of Learning (SOLs) and follow appropriate pacing and sequencing to meet the standards. The teacher follows all strategies and interventions designed by the Behavior Analyst, Lead Clinical Teacher or Area Principal to address challenging student behaviors or help with skill acquisition challenges.
