  • The New Jersey Attorney General’s office is looking for a specialized attorney with experience in Financial Affairs and State Contracting to function as a Special Assistant to the Director in the Division of Law, Trenton, NJ. The position will be appointed as a Deputy Attorney General 2 with a salary range between $110,546.27 to $158,260.13 per year. Salary is non-negotiable and will fall within the range posted.

    ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:

    The Attorney General has broad oversight of the state’s legal and law enforcement matters. As the head of the Department of Law & Public Safety, the Attorney General supervises a wide range of Divisions, Offices, and Commissions, consisting of over 2,800 sworn law enforcement officers, 600 attorneys, and thousands of other public servants.

    ABOUT THE DIVISION:

    The Division of Law (DOL) serves as primary legal counsel for New Jersey state government. Generally speaking, this work takes three forms: by providing legal advice to the state’s departments and agencies, by defending the state in civil litigation, and by bringing civil lawsuits against individuals, corporations, and other entities that violate the law and harm New Jersey and its residents. Staffed by nearly 500 attorneys, DOL’s responsibilities cover a broad swath of legal issues, including those involving banking, child protection, corrections, education, environmental, finance, health, insurance, taxation, and transportation matters.

    ABOUT THE SECTION:

    The Financial Affairs & State Contracting Practice Group consists of four sections: Banking & Insurance; Transportation, Construction and Condemnation; Treasury – Finance & Benefits; and Treasury, Revenue, Estates and Taxation. The Practice Group provides advice and counsel to the Departments of Banking and Insurance, Transportation and Treasury, and various divisions, agencies and offices within those departments, as well as to various independent State authorities. Additionally, the Practice Group provides advice and counsel on policy initiatives and supervises for the handling of various litigation (including administrative law hearings), transactional, public finance, budgetary, and procurement work throughout the Division.

    ABOUT THE POSITION:

    Under the direction of the Director of the Division of Law, the Special Assistant to the Director will:

    · Assist with strategic planning and coordination of various matters, cases and projects across the FAPG;

    · Support and participate in all aspects of matters, cases and projects, which may include direct handling of certain client representations, screening of matters, advice and counseling on matters, assistance on state budget and appropriation matters, pre-litigation counseling, monitoring of litigation matters;

    · Assist with administrative activities necessary for the efficient functioning of the Division with specific emphasis on the FAPG;

    · Work on policy and guidance for statewide initiatives and priority projects advanced by FAPG;

    · Work on finance, budget and state contract; work on tax and bankruptcy issues;

    · Assist with interpretation and analysis of law, regulations and other official instrumentalities;

    · Performs extensive research and writing on complex legal issues;

    · Perform other related duties as assigned or required.

    :

    · Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor.

    · Admission to practice as an Attorney-at-Law in the State of New Jersey is required.

    · Four (4) years of experience as a practicing attorney, one (1) year of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity.

    :

    · Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.

    · Candidates should submit a supplemental document, included with your resume, outlining (a) litigation experience in State and Federal court; and/or (b) investigation experience.
