Attorney is responsible for using specialized knowledge of national, state, and/or local laws to advise and represent clients and organizations in criminal or civil proceedings and other legal matters. Provides legal advice and counsel in support of business activities and transactions. Being an Attorney researches and interprets existing laws and regulations and anticipated changes to laws to guide informed decisions and reduce risk. Prepares and reviews various agreements, contracts, and other legal documents. Additionally, Attorney represents the organization in litigation, negotiations, and other matters where legal counsel is required. May have a billable hours requirement. Requires a JD. Requires State Bar membership. Typically reports to a manager. The Attorney work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. Job Overview:
Prosecute criminal cases in General District, Juvenile and Domestic Relations and Circuit courts, and other responsibilities as assigned by the Commonwealth’s Attorney. Prospective hire will receive training, guidance and supervision as needed to develop trial skills. Candidates should be able to exercise independent judgement and initiative. Prior criminal justice experience preferred but not required.
Candidates must be a member in good standing with the Virginia State Bar or waiting for Virginia Bar results.
