Overview:
The Estimator is responsible for completing accurate take offs for bidding projects. The Estimator will develop project plans, milestones, and schedules to meet the milestones. The Estimator will work with project managers to set up budgets based off the bid preparation.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Prepare complete cost estimates for site work and ROW project bids and jobs
- Perform field take offs/evaluations for estimate preparation
- Perform material take offs
- Develop trade list and sub-contractor solicitation list
- Establish a construction schedule to develop manpower for estimate including milestones, shutdowns, etc.
- Evaluation of vendor and subcontractor bids to Woodson Inc.
- Schedule and attend field walk-downs with customer, subcontractor, and construction personnel to understand and determine constructability requirements
- Understand and evaluate job related documentation
- Participate in estimate review process with internal and external customers
- Assist construction personnel throughout the project life-cycle in tracking and understanding basis of cost estimate
- Assist in the preparation and submission of change orders
- Post job completion analysis
Required Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent required
- 2 years experience in an Estimator role performing hard-bid estimates for linear projects such as powerlines, utilities, pipelines, and sewers
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; specifically Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Excel skills must include the ability to effectively use pivot tables, SUMif formulas and vlookups.
- Ability to access and input required report data in various business enterprise systems.
- Past experience using a CRM
- Past experience in reading blueprints and doing takeoffs by using the scale from the drawing to calculate bid units
- Experience using both manual take off methods and electronic take off tools
- Ability to read and analyze construction plans and specifications.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Civil engineering background or experience
- 5 years experience as Estimator in hard-bid cost estimating, pre-construction budgeting
- Experience with projects in both public and private sector work
- Experience with CAD, ArcView and Trimble softwares is a plus
Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, talk and hear; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift or move office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.
