Automotive Mechanic jobs in Moline, IL
Automotive Mechanic performs maintenance and repairs on automobiles and light trucks. Performs major repairs like body work, chassis and engine repair, and disassembling and assembling components. Being an Automotive Mechanic also performs minor repairs and maintenance work such as replacing worn drive belts, hoses, and filters. Helps diagnose issues, uses electronic indicator systems to identify problems, and performs routine safety checks on brakes, suspension, exhaust, cooling, and other systems. Additionally, Automotive Mechanic adheres to appropriate safety procedures. Typically requires a high school diploma. Typically requires a Certificate in Automotive Technology. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Automotive Mechanic works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. Duties include but are not limited to:
- Ability to diagnose, repair, and maintain automotive vehicles and various types of equipment.
- Ability to test drive all vehicles repaired.
- Ability to perform complex automotive vehicle and equipment maintenance and repairs.
- Inspect vehicle engine and mechanical/electrical components to diagnose issues accurately.
- Inspect vehicle computer and electronic systems to repair, maintain and upgrade.
- Conduct routine maintenance work aiming to vehicle functionality and longevity.
- Assess tread levels and valve quality on tires & check wear patterns.
- Mounts/demounts tires
- Ensures conformance to industry standards
- Examines and repairs tires;
- Performs preventative maintenance; and responds to emergency road calls as needed.
- Perform vehicle alignments
Requirements
Education and/or Experience: Must meet or exceed standards set by the industry recognized trade organizations. High School diploma required. Must have experience & formal training and or education in automotive repair, with demonstrated ability and desire to learn and develop further in this area. Must be willing to obtain ASE Certifications within 6 months of hire.
License/Certification: Valid driver’s license required.
Computer Skills: Entry level knowledge of computer equipment and applicable software applications.
