    We are excited to announce an opening for a Director of Operations in our South Deerfield, MA location.

     

    SUMMARY

    Leads and manages the manufacturing operations in South Deerfield with excitement and passion. Plans, organizes and directs manufacturing operations in support of the short and long-range goals to manufacture products at defined quality levels and minimal cost and maximum efficiency. Creates and sustains a work environment that has high levels of employee engagement, morale, and collaborative interaction at all levels of the organization. Delivers exemplary performance in safety, quality, delivery and cost that drives Pelican’s competitive edge in plastics manufacturing.

     

    PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Plan, coordinate and direct daily manufacturing processes and staff in order to meet product production and delivery goals.
    • Meet production and shipment goals at forecasted levels and within expected cost and related manufacturing KPI’s.
    • Respond with a sense of urgency to secure short and long-term business opportunities.  Collaborate with sales, engineering, product management, research and development to create new and profitable product production.
    • Ensure that quality standards and objectives are maintained in order to meet established requirements of finished products and uphold Pelican’s product and brand commitment.
    • Develop and drive a culture of continuous improvement by collaborating with staff at all levels to identify opportunities to improve production times, reduce costs, create a safer work environment and etc.  Model the concepts of “Operational Excellence” and ensures this culture is embraced as part of South Deerfield’s actions to meet business goals.
    • Identify and implement needed department and function performance metrics (quantitative and qualitative) to ensure that each effectively and efficiently contributes to meeting manufacturing goals.
    • Regularly review manufacturing performance against plans and take needed actions to meet manufacturing and business goals.
    • Formulate and consolidate operations budgets, including capital plans for the facility.
    • Drive and model a culture of safety excellence.  Ensure that Pelican’s first priority is understood that all employees and quests are safe and injury free. Support safety initiatives such as ergonomics programs, risk assessments and always challenges the status quo by supporting safe behavior, new and improved work methods and changes in fixturing, tooling and equipment.
    • Provide regular reports and strategic proposals to leadership that drives a culture of continuous improvement.  Manage and monitor CI projects and changes, measure and report results.
    • Measure Manufacturing Success with identified critical KPI’s and ensures they are prominently displayed and acted upon to drive behaviors and results using the concepts of Visual Manufacturing and Process Control.
    • Proactively lead and manage\ talent.  Identify, reward and develop high performers continually.  Address low performance proactively through effective coaching, needed skill development and if necessary, performance management. Establish and sustain a culture of staff development and performance that “continually raises the bar.”
    • Actively support Pelican’s commitment to Quality and Safety, with an emphasis on continual improvement.
    • Perform special projects and additional duties as assigned by Pelican Leadership and the VP and GM, South Deerfield.
    • Follows company policies and practices as outlined in the Employee Handbook and/or applicable employment agreement. Follows safety guidelines and procedures in accordance to the job.
    • Performs additional duties as assigned.

     

    JOB REQUIREMENTS                                          

    • B.S. in Engineering or related field, or equivalent specific experience.
    • 10 /- years of leadership experience in manufacturing. Experience in Roto molding and Injection molding desired.
    • Strong sense of urgency to address issues and take actions to implement changes to improve operational performance and the organizational culture.  Knowledge and use of Kotter’s Change Model is desired.
    • Demonstrated ability to implement and lead a manufacturing culture built on the standards of Operational Excellence, including Visual Management, Process Controls.
    • A solid grasp on lean manufacturing concepts and demonstrated track record of developing and deploying a lean transformation plan through the Value Stream Mapping, 6-Sigma methodology and detailed and diligent root cause analysis.
    • Has strong financial skills, best business practices, and experience in managing the planning and budgeting aspects of the manufacturing process.  Accomplishments in areas of MES, MRP, CAPX (ROA, COA), BOM’s.
    • Accomplishments in the areas of manufacturing forecasting and planning to ensure financial accountability is required.
    • Demonstrated significant accomplishments in the areas of creating successful safety and housekeeping/efficient (6S) cultures at all levels of manufacturing.
    • Must have excellent interpersonal and leadership skills and interact effectively and cooperatively with employees at all levels.
    • Ability to coach for success and guide the development of successful leaders at all levels.
    • Is a proven collaborator with a track record of creating successful business relationships with stakeholders.
    • Must always champion ethical business practices.
    • Must be a self-motivated, proactive, focused high achiever who consistently shows the abilities to facilitate and sustain profitable growth when responding to industry changes.
    • Must have the ability to assess personnel requirements and organize, plan, staff and lead operations; must be able to translate Company objectives into understandable language by staff at all levels, effectively communicate and drive them.

    • Must be able to operate in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Ensures that staff is contributing at maximum potential through rigorous hiring practices and an emphasis on training and development initiatives, including coaching and counseling direct reports in their performance and professional development, with final authority for approving pay increases, hiring decisions and disciplinary actions.
    • Emphasizes ethical leadership and decision-making to protect Pelican’s brand and reputation.
    • Establishes challenging, productive and achievable goals for direct reports; measures results by establishing checkpoints to track progress.
    • Must be able to travel, nationally and internationally, as necessary

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITION

    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be constantly required to execute standard physical activities within the facility areas (i.e. stand, walk, sit, use hands/fingers).
    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be frequently required to execute non-standard physical activities within the facility areas (i.e. climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch).
    • Ability to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
    • This position requires repetitive hand/wrist activities.
