    SUMMARY:

    The Banquet Captain supervises the setup, service, teardown, and cleanup of assigned catered events and banquets.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Oversee and direct the setup of assigned catered events or banquets.
    • Oversee catered functions, in-house and off-site 
    • Responsible for making sure the function space is visually appealing and presenting the menu offering for the event.
    • Responsible for the overall sanitation and cleanliness of the work areas, banquet rooms, and storage areas. 
    • Responsible for the proper usage and good working order of all equipment, furniture, and fixtures, and fixtures in the Banquet and Catering Sections in the shift assigned. 
    • Provide unique and creative ideas to enhance meetings & group experience. 
    • Supervise Events Team from start to finish of each event 
    • Resolve staff concerns and customer concerns quickly and efficiently. 
    • Coordinate with the Kitchen and other departments 
    • Assist & support the Catered Events and Conference Supervisor to provide excellent guest service
    • Responsible for ensuring sufficient supplies & doing the monthly inventory 
    • Ensure event or banquet guests are receiving excellent customer service from staff.
    • Oversee and direct teardown and cleanup after conclusion of event or banquet.
    • Verify scheduled staff is in attendance at event or banquet.
    • Assign duties to staff and verify completion of these duties.
    • Drive catering truck to banquets and events as necessary.
    • Ensure staff adherence to organization and department policies and procedures.
    • Inventory event and banquet items and inform supervisor of future needs.
    • Collaborate with Catered Events and Banquets Coordinators to ensure group needs are being met.
    • Other projects and duties as assigned.

    Qualifications


    QUALIFICATIONS

    Education/Experience:

    • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
    • Must have a valid driver’s license and provide evidence of a good driving record.
    • Tips Card or Alcohol Serve Safe Certificate preferred; ability to obtain a Tips Card or Alcohol Serve Safe Certificate required.
    • Food handler’s permit preferred; ability to obtain a food handler’s permit required.
    • Must be 19 years of age or older.
    • Two years previous food service or banquets experience required; previous supervisory experience in a related field preferred.
    • Previous customer service experience required.
    • Previous interviewing and hiring experience preferred.

    Skills/Knowledge:

    • Proficiency with Microsoft Word preferred.
    • Strong cash handling skills required.
    • Must work well in a team environment.
    • Ability to manage conflict and influence outcomes required.
    • Must be adept at multitasking.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
    • Excellent presentation and organization skills required.
    • Must be able to follow general and detailed instructions precisely. 
    • Advanced problem solving skills required.
    • Thorough understanding of the theory of progressive discipline preferred.
    • Ability to guide and coach a team required.
