SUMMARY
The Benefits Coordinator is responsible for assisting with the day-to-day operations of all group benefits, wellness, retirement plans including completing all annual regulatory requirements. The position assists employees with understanding and enrolling in their benefits and assumes the responsibility of timely payment of benefit invoices and completing all benefit reports and surveys.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Create excellent service experiences consistent with the Veridian brand.
- Prepare and process Veridian Credit Union and Veridian Group, Inc. benefit plans.
- Knowledgeable of Veridian benefit offerings including related laws, regulations, and processes to ensure compliance. Maintain regulatory and technical knowledge through ongoing education.
- Provide ongoing education to employees regarding Veridian's benefits and wellness initiatives.
- Assists with the maintenance of the operational components of Veridian’s 401k, 457b, and 457f Retirement Plans. Attend quarterly investment committee meetings. Assists with communicating applicable updates to staff.
- Assists the Benefits Administrator with the annual 401(k) census, 401(k) audits and Worker’s Compensation audits.
- Process various staff requests that include but not limited to FMLA, worker's compensation, employee accommodation requests, catastrophic leave request, USERRA, extended illness, presidential disaster, etc. Prepare any applicable reports and serve as a liaison to the vendors.
- Assists with the completion of all required monthly, quarterly and yearly reports for yearly benefit reports, FMLA, 401(k), 457(b), 457(f), Worker's Compensation and the 5500 annual report.
- Maintain 401(k), FMLA, worker’s compensation and all-encompassing Benefits processes and procedures with thorough and accurate documentation.
- Collaborate and assist the VP of Talent Development and Manager of Payroll and Benefits in the development of Veridian's wellness program. Conduct research and reviews of the program and make recommendations for enhancements and changes when necessary.
- Serve as a primary contact to employees and Veridian retirees seeking assistance and information on benefits.
- Responsible for administration, training, and maintenance of HRIS system to ensure departmental efficiencies and quality. Troubleshoot system issues as needed. Input employee benefit data into HRIS system as needed.
- Maintain relationships with applicable vendors, conducting cost comparisons, and preparing invoices for payment.
- Maintain regulatory and technical knowledge by reviewing professional publications, participating in on-line courses and webinars, etc.
- Assists all duties related to COBRA and HIPAA.
- Assists the HIPAA Privacy Officer with various related to the development, implementation, maintenance, and adherence to the organization’s policies and procedures covering the privacy, access, and patient health information in compliance with federal and state laws and the healthcare organization’s information privacy practices.
- Prepare benefit surveys and correspondence, including follow-up, as required.
- Positively contribute to the team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Maintain employee confidence and protect payroll and benefit operations by maintaining confidentiality of information.
- Acts as backup to the Benefits Administrator position.

This job operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment.
TRAVEL
Limited travel expected.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High School diploma.
- 2 years of experience providing direction to others through coaching and coordination.
- Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment; must include Excel.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- 2 years of progressive work experience in Human Resources related field.
- Specialized training in employment law or benefits.
- Associates degree in Human Resources, Business, Organizational Development, or related area of study.
