Benefits Director oversees the development, implementation, administration, and maintenance of benefits programs, policies, and procedures. Ensures programs are chosen to be equitable, meet employee needs, comply with legal requirements, and to be cost effective. Being a Benefits Director establishes practices for evaluating existing benefits programs against peer organizations to determine competitiveness, trends and developments. Makes high-level decisions to modify existing benefits programs or institute new ones. Additionally, Benefits Director requires a bachelor's degree. May require Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS). Typically reports to top management. The Benefits Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Benefits Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.     POSITION PURPOSE 

    IndyGo is hiring an experienced Benefits Director to lead our human resources team designing and implementing the company’s employee benefits programs.  

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

    To be successful in this role, an individual must be able to perform in a satisfactory manner the functions listed below. The company will make reasonable accommodations to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these functions.  

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

    • Serve as primary contact for plan vendors and third-party administrators. 
    • Administer pension plans, 401(a) plans, and benefits programs, including medical, wellness, dental, life and disability insurance, and flexible spending.
    • Measure and analyze benefits data to improve effectiveness, build efficiencies, and proactively enhance the corporation’s benefits package delivery.
    • Maintain benefits records and ensure the accurate and timely payment of monthly vendor bills and the preparation of benefits-related reports.
    • Help monitor overall benefits costs and assure competitive pricing for all benefits program components.
    • Design, administer, and communicate all corporate benefits programs, including wellness programs, to ensure that health and welfare benefit plans meet quality cost and employee satisfaction objectives and the corporation’s long-term care strategy.
    • Research possible solutions and make recommendations to HR leadership for changes and enhancements to the existing benefits program.
    • Develop, implement, and maintain a benefits communication and education program and plan to enhance employee understanding of the corporation benefit program.

    • Possess knowledge and ability to interpret and apply human resources policies, procedures, practices, programs, federal and state employment laws, labor contracts, and employment agreements. 
    • Proficiency in using a computer, including proficiency with Microsoft Office, the internet, and complex spreadsheets and databases. 
    • Ability to effectively organize, direct, coordinate, and manage assigned activities, functions, and staff.
    • Ability to prepare clear and comprehensive correspondence, reports, presentations, proposals, and other material.
    • Ability to define problem areas and evaluate, recommend, and implement alternative solutions to complex issues and problems.
    • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
    • Ability to collaborate with other executive managers in developing and implementing policies and programs.
    • Ability to work effectively under challenging situations involving tight deadlines, confrontation, and conflict.

    EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the following education and/or experience. 

    • A bachelor’s degree in human resources information systems, public administration, business, or a related field is required; an advanced degree is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. 
    • Seven years of related experience in HRIS utilization, preferably ADP. 
    • Direct experience as an ADP administrator preferred. 
    • Society for Human Resources Management or Certified Employee Benefit Specialist certification preferred.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS  

    The physical demands described here are representative of those an individual must meet to perform the essential functions of this job successfully.  

    • Ability to work in a deadline-oriented office environment.   
    • Ability to remain stationary at least 50% of the time.
    • Some local travel may be required.
