  • Overview: We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Billing Specialist to join our mental health practice. As a Billing Specialist, you will be responsible for accurately processing and managing medical billing and coding tasks. Your role will be crucial in ensuring timely and accurate reimbursement for medical services provided. Certification in Medical Billing and Coding is preferred. Experience in private practice is a plus. Part-time 10-15 hours weekly.

    Responsibilities:

    • Review and analyze medical records, ensuring proper documentation and coding compliance
    • Assign appropriate ICD-10, ICD-9, and DRG codes to medical procedures and diagnoses - Verify patient insurance coverage and eligibility
    • Prepare and submit claims to insurance companies electronically or by mail
    • Follow up on unpaid or denied claims, resolving any billing discrepancies
    • Collaborate with administrative office staff to obtain missing or incomplete documentation
    • Provide support in medical collections, including contacting patients for outstanding balances
    • Maintain confidentiality of patient information in accordance with HIPAA regulations
    • Stay updated on industry changes and regulations related to medical billing and coding
    • Assume the responsibility of receiving and sorting incoming payments with attention to credibility.

    • Work directly with the Client Care Coordinator to ensure that communication is consistent with clients and clinicians.
    • Monitor the processing of all payments from insurance carriers and patients for each client.
    • Regularly review and maintain up to date knowledge of insurance guidelines and communicate that information to the clinical team.
    • Provide information and assist clients when help is needed by researching and resolving billing problems or issues.
    • Manage the status of accounts and balances and identify inconsistencies.
    • Update accounts receivable database with new accounts or missed payments.
    • Ensure all clients remain informed on their outstanding debts and deadlines.
    • Write thorough reports on billing activity with clear and reliable data.
    • Apply insurance payments to client accounts.
    • Other duties as they may be assigned.

    Qualifications:

    • High school diploma or equivalent; certification in Medical Billing and Coding is required
    • At least 2 years experience in a similar role.
    • Strong math, typing, and computer skills, especially with bookkeeping software and Simple Practice.
    • Master level proficiency in GSuite applications, HR Software, EHR systems
    • High level of accuracy, efficiency, and accountability.
    • Knowledge of client experience goals and how to achieve client satisfaction.
    • Be highly organized and detail oriented.
    • Be a team player.
    • Have strong written and verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow relevant office procedures surrounding HIPAA.
    • Proven experience working in a medical office, mental health practice, or healthcare setting
    • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and coding systems (ICD-10, ICD-9)
    • Familiarity with medical billing software and electronic health records (EHR) systems
    • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and recordkeeping
    • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively
    • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal
    • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team
