Biomedical Engineering Technician delivers biomedical equipment services that provide safety testing, repair, maintenance, and user support of biomedical clinical and research equipment. Assembles, installs, repairs, and maintains a variety of medical equipment. Being a Biomedical Engineering Technician tests the functionality of equipment and takes accuracy, sensitivity, and selectivity measurements to calibrate devices. Coordinates with medical staff and vendors to troubleshoot problems, resolve equipment malfunctions and enable new devices. Additionally, Biomedical Engineering Technician supports medical staff with equipment operations training. Typically requires an associate degree. Typically requires Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET). Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Biomedical Engineering Technician works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job.     An engineering technician position is a dynamic, fast paced, very independent and ever-changing work schedule predominantly in the field. An engineering technician position involves 75% or more field work in all types of weather on residential and commercial sites. You must possess a reliable vehicle that can store field equipment, and sometimes even a wheelbarrow. It requires driving to multiple job sites usually within 1/2 hour to 1 hour of Asheville, but sometimes up to 2 hours away. You must be capable of carrying 50 pounds to and from your vehicle to a job site and up and down slopes. Appropriate clothing for all 4 seasons and work boots/hiking boots are required. A reliable smartphone and signal is required for continuous communication with engineering staff and technicians. You must be proficient with Microsoft word and excel documents.

    An engineering technician is responsible for construction testing and inspection services in the field to include, but not limited to the following:

    • Hand Auger Borings
    • Fill Placement and Compaction
    • Foundation Bearing Capacity Evaluation
    • Concrete Sampling and Testing
    • Masonry Sampling and Testing
    • Asphalt Sampling and Compaction Testing
    • Retaining Wall Inspections
    • Reinforcement Steel Inspection
    • Daily Field Reports

    An engineering technician is responsible for soil, concrete, grout and mortar testing in the laboratory to include, but not limited to the following:

    • Moisture Content of Soils and Aggregate
    • Standard and Modified Proctors for Soils and Aggregate
    • Particle Size Analysis of Soils and Aggregate
    • Compressive Strength of Concrete Cylinders, Grout Prisms and Mortar Cubes
    • Laboratory Testing Reports

    Salary is commensurate with experience. Personal Time Off for full-time positions is accrued. We will provide training on all aspects of the engineering technician duties and provide smartphone allowance toward your monthly bill, mileage reimbursement and personal protective equipment (PPE).
