Biomedical Engineering Technician delivers biomedical equipment services that provide safety testing, repair, maintenance, and user support of biomedical clinical and research equipment. Assembles, installs, repairs, and maintains a variety of medical equipment. Being a Biomedical Engineering Technician tests the functionality of equipment and takes accuracy, sensitivity, and selectivity measurements to calibrate devices. Coordinates with medical staff and vendors to troubleshoot problems, resolve equipment malfunctions and enable new devices. Additionally, Biomedical Engineering Technician supports medical staff with equipment operations training. Typically requires an associate degree. SUMMARY
As an Intern, this position works under the close supervision of a Biomedical or Imaging Engineer Technician to gain experience and knowledge in the medical devices field. The position is primarily responsible for preventative maintenance, repairs, and safety testing.
EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND SKILLS REQUIRED
TYPICAL PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS
Requires frequent (60% to 80% of the time) standing, walking, and bending for long periods of time. Requires frequent (40% to 60% of the time) sitting and working on a computer screen. Requires constant ability to drive and move freely about the customer’s offices which could include climbing stairs and reaching in cabinets. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Lifts up to 50 pounds regularly.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Requires constant contact with staff and public. Work is performed in air conditioned/heated facilities. Requires exposure to outside elements up to 10% of the time.
