Assembles, installs, repairs, and maintains a variety of medical equipment. Being a Biomedical Engineering Technician tests the functionality of equipment and takes accuracy, sensitivity, and selectivity measurements to calibrate devices. Coordinates with medical staff and vendors to troubleshoot problems, resolve equipment malfunctions and enable new devices. Additionally, Biomedical Engineering Technician supports medical staff with equipment operations training. Typically requires an associate degree. Lovelace Biomedical Research Institute (LBRI) is seeking a Laboratory Technician in the Aerosol department. Under general direction, the Laboratory Technician will perform a variety of tasks in the Aerosol and Scientific Core laboratories.
The position may include aerosol system development/operation/validation, and some basic chemistry procedural cross-over. The individual should be willing to work modified schedule as workflows require. Individual will complete moderately complex work assignments as well as documenting laboratory work and maintaining laboratory equipment and supplies, and performing all other related duties and tasks as required or assigned.
High school diploma or GED plus one (1) or two (2) years relevant post high school education (college, university or technical school) in a science curriculum or one (1) or two (2) years of equivalent work experience in a research, commercial or hospital laboratory; or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained.
Requires strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work independently and as a part of a team. Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office, as well as the ability to learn department-specific computer systems as needed.
This position may involve work inside the ABSL3 facility which may require vaccinations/immunizations. Candidates must be able to lift up to 20 pounds and wear a respirator. A Post-offer physical and background check are required. Ability to gain and maintain access to Kirtland Air Force base (KAFB) is required.
Salary is commensurate with experience $500 sign-on bonus.
