Biostatistician conducts statistical studies to generate data and insights used to innovate, plan and support improved healthcare outcomes and processes. Prepares analysis plans to ensure the best statistical methods are developed and utilized. Being a Biostatistician writes specifications for files, consistency checks, tables, and calculations used to collect and analyzes data from a variety of sources. Interprets analyses and prepares exhibits for reports and presentations. Additionally, Biostatistician interfaces with non technical users to assist with data interpretation and understanding of results. Proficient with statistical computer applications like SAS and R. Typically requires a master's degree. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Biostatistician occasionally directed in several aspects of the work.     The Senior Biostatistician provides complex statistical consulting, education, survey design and analysis, clinical trial design and analysis, experimental design and analysis, data management, manuscript preparation and review. Participates in grant development activities, technical research, and manages trial databases. Provides mentoring and oversight to Biostatistics staff and trainees.

    Essential Functions

    • Provide high-level statistical consulting on survey design, clinical trial design, experimental design and data analysis

    • Perform statistical data analysis, presents results to project team and general audiences as needed.
    • Collaborate with statisticians, investigators, and data analysts across Beaumont Heath System
    • Participates in manuscript preparation for publication of research findings. Conducts review of manuscripts for requesting investigators.
    • Assists in grant development, including determining/justifying the sample size and writing the statistical analysis plan.
    • Maintain up-to-date knowledge on various statistical issues and statistical programming methodology relevant to ongoing projects.
    • Mentors junior staff and other departments with regards to statistical methodology and departmental operations
    • Conduct seminars, workshops on statistics, research design for faculty, residents, and other healthcare professionals.
    • Membership on committees (e.g., Scientific Review Committee, Institutional Review Board) to provide insight on proposed project methodology, measurement, sample size and statistical analysis.

    Qualifications

    • Required Doctorate Ph.D. with a minimum of two years’ experience as a Research Assistant or Statistical Consultant at school, or Masters’ degree with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in Statistics, Biostatistics or another related field with strong analytical skills.
    • Requirements for Masters - Work experience in leading analytical teams, conducting advanced statistical analyses, designing research activities, analyzing complex datasets and reporting results. Research experience in the health sciences arena required. Experience working with large national-level datasets preferred. Experience with protocols for handling protected health information or other highly sensitive information. Required
    • Requirements for Ph.D. - Experience of applying cutting edge methodologies, including various causal inference techniques, competing risk survival modelling, structure equation modelling, or machine learning/deep learning methods, to solve complex problems. Research experience in the health sciences arena is required. Required
