Biostatistician conducts statistical studies to generate data and insights used to innovate, plan and support improved healthcare outcomes and processes. Prepares analysis plans to ensure the best statistical methods are developed and utilized. Being a Biostatistician writes specifications for files, consistency checks, tables, and calculations used to collect and analyzes data from a variety of sources. Interprets analyses and prepares exhibits for reports and presentations. Additionally, Biostatistician interfaces with non technical users to assist with data interpretation and understanding of results. Proficient with statistical computer applications like SAS and R. Typically requires a master's degree. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Biostatistician occasionally directed in several aspects of the work.     Biostatistician

    Location: This position will work a hybrid model (remote & office). The ideal candidate must live within 50 miles of one of our Elevance Health PulsePoint office locations.

    The Biostatistician is responsible for learning the rules of payment for Medicare and how it impacts data used by the Clinical Data Team. You will be responsible for developing and implementing clinical prediction models, experimental design, program evaluation and effectiveness methodologies, and statistical sampling for health plan functions. Use and manipulation of large datasets is critical to the success of this position. It is expected that you will become familiar with the rules of Medicare and Social Security that apply to claims payments.

    How You Will Make An Impact:

    • Develops and implements prediction models for member and provider-based interventions.
    • Conducts competitive analysis of risk stratification models and makes recommendations to management.  
    • Designs and executes care management program evaluations.  
    • Develops evaluation methodologies for measuring the effectiveness of clinical programs.
    • Researches and analyzes broadly defined business scenarios, trends, and patterns and develops recommendations for management.
    • Provides technical/analytical advice to staff.
    • Responds to and manages ad hoc client requests to ensure accurate, in-depth results/data are delivered in a timely manner.
    • Prepares results for presentation to internal/external clients.
    • Presents research findings to management and clients.
    • Compiles results of studies for journal publication.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Requires a Masters degree in Biostatistics, Statistics or related field; 3 years healthcare and/or consumer data analysis experience; 2 years experience in the development of predictive models; 3 years coding experience with SAS; 3 years experience manipulating and processing large multi-source datasets with SAS and SQL programming tools; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.
    • This position is part of our FGS (Federal Government Services) division which, per CMS TDL 190275, requires foreign national applicants meet the residency requirement of living in the United States at least three of the past five years.
       

    Preferred Skills, Capabilities & Experiences:

    • Experience with industry standard clinical code sets, predictive modeling risk adjustment tools and episode groupers and measures, such as HEDIS, preferred.
    • Use of following analysis tools is highly preferred: Power BI, Denodo, MicroStrategy, Oracle and Python.
    • Strong or expert working knowledge in use of SAS (Statistical Analysis Software) is highly preferred.
