Tests for structural soundness and inspects fittings, feed pumps, safety and check valves, water and pressure gauges, and controls to ensure boilers operate safely and efficiently. Being a Boilermaker reads and uses blueprints to determine locations, positions, or dimensions of parts. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Additionally, Boilermaker typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Typically requires completion or enrollment in apprenticeship program. The Boilermaker gains or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. Works under moderate supervision. To be a Boilermaker typically requires 1-3 years of related experience.
