    Hourly Wage: $18.23/Regular/Full-Time


    The Bookkeeper V position assists in issuance of Yakama Nation enrolled Tribal membership distribution payments. Examples of duties and responsibilities include: record maintenance, follow bookkeeping practices and procedures, and meet Tribal and Federal legal compliance requirements. Bookkeeping practices include any combination of routine record building, calculation, coding and posting clerical and numerical data. Save complete and accurate accounting records in all systems for use in daily transaction and communication. Critical features of the job as follows under the headings below and are subject to change at any time due to software upgrades or other reasons.


    Examples of Work Performed:

    Ensure Tribal member's names, Tribal membership, mailing address, contact information, financial and other information are on proper forms for issuing and reissuing distributions, as well as assuring correct entry, mathematical accuracy and proper coding.

    Reconcile, note and save all legal guardian changes, name changes, 18-year-old changes or any other changes in the database or electronic files with proper supporting documentation is on file.

    Generate lost claim form for lost checks, bank clear check letters, bank fraud forms, expedited forms, update reissue check information and communicate information to Tribal members.

    Prepare issue and follow up on current, late or back payments in accordance with established procedures for Full-time Student school proof submittals.

    Submit payments for new Tribal members, changes, termination of distributions regarding new enrollment, relinquishments and decease reports.

    Assist in the program's annual budget process and other reports by preparing and providing various accounting summaries and compile statistics.

    Work with co-workers, programs, outside organizations and Tribal members and understand how to find the information to complete a request.

    Document information from program forms, letters, emails, bank accounts, new enrollment letters, W-9's, social security cards, legal court orders, resolutions and other hardcopy actions in required software.

    Review a return check file, re-mail checks to new addresses, hold checks with insufficient addresses, release holds with new addresses or issue held pays, issue or reissue inmate checks with current inmate information.

    Instruct non-Yakama guardians with Yakama enrolled minors on the Tribal Council Executive Board approval processes to receive the minor's funds.

    Accept complete income verification forms; research updated electronic files and document proof of income for exterior organizations and programs.

    Process payment requests for child support, restitution or various orders.

    Process Yakama Nation Tribal members residing in Canada with no social security number and withhold income tax for payments.

    Copy and paste manually printed checks to a separate check register issued for payments not part of the regular check registers.

    Communicate payment status regarding credit holds for delinquent loans with Yakama Nation Credit Enterprise.

    Ensure work areas are organized, file all working documents, answer calls, emails and speak with customers in a courteous and customer service oriented manner, and engage in clerical and administrative support activities.


    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    Knowledge in computer skills and Microsoft software.

    Knowledge in bookkeeping practices, accounting procedures, work with numerical data, and perform arithmetic computations correctly and efficiently.

    Be self-motivated and have excellent time management skills.


    Ability to operate office equipment such as 10-key calculator, keyboard, printer, copier, scanner,

    telephone and fax machine.

    Knowledge of general administrative policies, procedures and practices of the Yakama Nation and federal government.

    Ability to follow instruction, take notes and refer back to organized references.

    Knowledge of grammar, punctuation, and spelling; organize and prioritize work; communicate efficiently and effectively both verbally and in writing; proofread documents and correspondence.

    Ability to establish and maintain satisfactory work relationships with members of the Yakama Tribal Council, Tribal/Federal managers, staff, coworkers and Tribal membership.

    Ability to listen and give full attention to what people are saying, requesting and use logic and reasoning to identify the solutions.

    Ability to monitor or assess performance of a situation and recommend improvements or corrective action.

    Skills in understanding work standards, analyzing information, dealing with complexity, reporting research results, attention to detail, understanding confidentiality, work ethics and thoroughness.

    Ability to comply with and demonstrate dependable work attendance.

    Ability to file information alphabetically, numerically and chronologically.

    Ability to comply with Tribal and Federal policies, procedures and regulations.


    General Recruiting Indicators:

    Two years of progressively responsible work experience as a Bookkeeper IV or knowledge and work experience demonstrating the ability to successfully complete the work tasks assigned.

    Post-secondary courses of up to two (2) years in areas such as accounting or business administration and two years bookkeeper experience. Alternatively, four years of bookkeeping experience or substitution of a combination of bookkeeping training, education and experience on a month-to-month basis. Certifications required.

    Must pass pre-employment drug test.

    Enrolled Yakama Preference, but all qualified applicants are encouraged to apply.
