Evaluates functions and activities in assigned areas to determine the nature of operations and the adequacy of systems to achieve established objectives. This is responsible professional work coordinating plan review, zoning, permitting inspections and other code related activities in the City’s Construction Services and Permitting Division. Work involves commercial and residential plan review, approval of building permit applications; enforcement of applicable codes and ordinances; participating in the selection, placement, training, promotion, safety, appraisal and discipline of assigned employees; handling complaints, frequently of a delicate nature, necessitating the exercise of considerable judgment, tact and firmness when consulting with municipal officials, contractors, design professionals, builders and the general public; developing and implementing divisional policies and procedures; conducting occasional site visits in order to investigate a complaint or determine a resolution; and studying new materials, methods and applications of building construction to keep abreast of modern developments.
