Job Goals:Provide general direction and oversight to the program and staff. Ensure Minimum Licensing, Early Head Start, and Better Beginnings requirements are met on a daily basis to safeguard the highest quality early learning environment for the children and families served.
Hours: 7:30-4:30 Monday-Friday
Flexible hours required to meet the needs of the center and attend required meetings and trainings.
Duties
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Interactions with Children (Role Modeling for other staff)
- Plans for and implements pleasant arrivals and departures.
- Uses routines as a time to build relationships and learning opportunities.
- Shows respect for children and encourages respectful interactions.
- Uses language to build relationships and strengthen the child’s social and emotional competencies.
- Uses indirect and direct behavior guidance techniques including Conscious Discipline strategies.
- Supports children as they learn to resolve their own conflicts. Works with classroom teachers and families to monitor documentation and/or disciplinary actions as needed.
- Strives to meet each child’s individual needs.
- Accompanies assigned children and knows counts at all times. Ensures staff have a system in place for knowing counts at all times.
Activities and Environment
- Maintains a clean, organized, inviting office environment and ensures each classroom and playground learning environment is inspected daily to be safe and conducive to optimal growth and development.
- Ensures staff comply with playground procedures for supervision and use the outdoors daily as part of the learning environment.
- Monitors lesson planning and curriculum implementation and supervises staff to ensure early learning skills and assessment results are utilized to develop individualized lesson plans with engaging and developmentally appropriate learning activities. Reviews and approves classroom education plans prior to implementation.
- Assists staff as they guide children in the development of good eating and health habits.
- Ensures that the daily schedule is followed and routines are established.
- Monitors shared space to ensure it is kept neat and organized.
- Ensures materials are rotated and sanitized & recalled or broken items are disposed of. Online list of recalled items and is available to parents.
- Ensures staff maintain and update children’s portfolios monthly to promote positive outcomes and progress in all areas of child development and early learning.
- Ensures staff complete children’s assessments within the given time frame, as well as complete observations for ongoing assessments and enter data into ChildPlus in a timely manner.
- Ensures parent/teacher conferences are scheduled twice per year and as needed. Ensures at least 2 home visits per family completed annually.
- Oversees staff in the successful implementation of the curriculum.
- Ensures staff complete family/child data entry into computer systems as required and in a timely manner. Ensures all record keeping/reports for the center that are required by Early Head Start, any grants, or Bentonville High School are completed by deadlines.
- Observes staff for the purpose of mentoring as well as evaluation. Monitors staff and provides one-on-one training as needed to improve job performance.
- Overseas staff, service credit workers, student observers, and volunteers to ensure all minimum licensing, Early Head Start and Better Beginnings requirements are being met on a daily basis.
- Lifts 10-30 pounds regularly, up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Professional Responsibilities
- Meets and monitors staff for program attendance requirements and maintains a flexible work schedule.
- Submits time off and clocks in/out at assigned time in Frontline. Is punctual.
- Maintains and monitors staff for professional appearance following the program dress code.
- Open to new ideas and take initiative.
- Accepts responsibility for job-related tasks.
- Meets program expectations and monitors staff for professional development. Attends all meetings and required staff development.
- Trains staff in all areas related to Early Head Start and/or seeks out training needed for staff.
- Knows and ensures staff is able to follow emergency procedures and risk management protocol.
- Keeps Team Leader apprised of the center's status related to the EHS partner, minimum licensing, program policy, etc.
- Accepts all assignments given by supervisors.
- Ensures that all program requirements are maintained as outlined in the EHS-Childcare Partnership Agreement, Better Beginnings, Minimum Licensing, and Personnel Handbook to maintain state quality approval.
- Completes yearly self-evaluation.
- Uses good judgment and follows expectations for confidentiality, especially when Service Credit Workers or visitors are present.
- Monitors staff supervision of Service Credit Workers, ensuring that they follow all policies and procedures outlined in the Service Credit Workers Job Duties. Enters daily attendance and grades for Service Credit Workers as required.
- Ensures that staff-child ratio is met and proper coverage is provided utilizing the sub list when necessary. Works in the classroom when necessary.
- Carries out all goals, policies, and activities designed to implement the objective and standards of the program to ensure compliance with the appropriate policies. Oversees the site coordination of the Early Head Start program.
- Mandated reporter under the Arkansas Child Maltreatment Reporting Act.
Interactions with Parents, Staff and Others
- Works to build positive relationships with parents, staff, and others.
- Communicates effectively with a positive, professional attitude (e.g. non-judgmental, objective, reflective, empathetic, tactful, patient) with supervisor, families, co-workers and others daily; avoids gossip.
- Confers with parents regarding facility activities, policies and enrollment procedures. Promotes and supports parent involvement & leadership. Assists in planning family involvement activities to strengthen families.
- Works as a part of a team with concern for all programs under the Child Enrichment umbrella.
- Facilitates the formation and collaborates with the Parent Committee. Attends all meetings, documents parent attendance and ensures meeting notes are kept.
- Attends Center Director (Early Head Start) Meetings as needed, informs center staff and supervisors of recommendations and ensures they are completed by deadline.
- Collaborates with the Family and Community Partnership Manager and Assistant to develop and maintain adequate volunteer programs. Recruits, engages and schedules volunteers; tracks male parent involvement.
- Works with Family Service Worker to ensure any EHS requirements in relation to families are completed.
- Recruits and assists families with the application process.
Additional qualifications include enjoyment of young children, good mental and physical health, respect for diverse cultural backgrounds, willingness to complete training requirements, and willingness to undergo regulatory checks required by law.
