Building and Grounds Supervisor supervises and trains building and grounds maintenance staff. Oversees landscaping activities, the maintenance of sidewalks and parking areas, and the removal of trash and snow. Being a Building and Grounds Supervisor maintains and monitors the operation of all utility systems such as heating, ventilating and air conditioning. May be responsible for the housekeeping staff. Additionally, Building and Grounds Supervisor, a level I supervisor is considered a working supervisor with little authority for personnel actions. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Working team member that may validate or coordinate the work of others on a support team. SUMMARY OF JOB PURPOSE:
Responsible for performing semi-skilled tasks for the maintenance and repair of mechanical, electrical, electronics, carpentry, plumbing, security and grounds belonging to the First United Methodist Church, Pittsburg, Texas.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

· Repair, maintain, and remodel minor plumbing systems, equipment and facilities.
· Install, maintain and repair minor electrical and electronic lighting, data communications, security systems, street lighting and related systems; performs installation, maintenance and repair of motor, generators, transformers, conduit and interior wiring components.
· Perform rough and finish carpentry, including cabinetry, shelves, dividers, paneling and partitions; assists in the installation of ceiling and floor martials; installs locks, closing devices and other door and window hardware.
· Perform painting of interior and exterior building surfaces; prepare surfaces for painting (protecting surrounding surfaces).
· Take care of the church’s grounds and flower beds by mowing, trimming, edging, fertilizing, weeding, pruning and mulching.
· Performs snow and ice removal and salting of facilities and access ways.
· Operate and maintain a variety of hand and power tools and equipment related to activities.
· Observe safe work methods including using safety equipment, and secure worksites from safe hazards.
· Carry out assignments in a non-disruptive manner.
· Maintain basic records of work performed.
· Represent the church with dignity, integrity and a spirit of cooperation in all relationships with staff and public.
· Work with Trustees and church staff to establish, and adhere to, budgets for the church grounds and facilities
· Help identify and prioritize work and projects to maintain and preserve the beauty and integrity of the historic sanctuary and campus.
QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Knowledge of:
· Basic principles, equipment, methods and materials used in building and grounds maintenance activities.
· Operation and maintenance of a variety of hand, power and shop tools used in a variety of areas.
· Shop mathematics.
· Methods and techniques of planting, transplanting, cultivating, pruning and maintaining the grounds, plants, shrubs, hedges and trees around all church areas.
· Safe work methods and safety regulations pertaining to the work.
· Communicating effectively in oral and written form.
Skill in:
· Safely using and maintaining hand, power, and lawn tools and vehicles related to the work assigned.
· Performing general maintenance work, individually or as a member of a crew in various areas.
· Maintaining a variety of landscaped areas.
· Reading and interpreting plans, maps and instructions.
· Understanding and following oral and written directions.
· Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those encountered in the course of the work.
· Working with and overseeing a variety of contractors to complete work that is beyond the scope of this position (i.e. A/C repair).
REQUIRED LICENSES:
· Texas driver’s license.
PHYSICAL DEMAND AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
· Strength and mobility to work in a typical field or shop maintenance setting, including operating hand and power tools.
· Stamina to perform sustained physical labor; to include, standing, walking, climbing and working in confined and awkward spaces.
· Strength to lift and maneuver materials and equipment weighing up to 100 pounds with proper equipment.
· Vision to read printed materials.
· Hearing and speech to communicate in person or over a telephone.
