Building and Grounds Supervisor supervises and trains building and grounds maintenance staff. Additionally, Building and Grounds Supervisor, a level I supervisor is considered a working supervisor with little authority for personnel actions. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Working team member that may validate or coordinate the work of others on a support team. Suggests improvements to process, is a knowledge resource for other team members. Has no authority for staff actions. Generally has a minimum of 2 years experience as an individual contributor.     Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade. **A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and MCCP Board Rules & Regulations**

    Nature of Work

    The fundamental reason this classification exists is to supervise the work of multiple crews engaged in skilled carpentry work in both new and existing construction. �The primary work responsibilities include: acting as the general contractor for large construction and renovation projects; supervising skilled and semi-skilled workers engaged in building construction trades (carpentry and construction); responding to complaints concerning carpentry and construction maintenance in city-owned/-operated facilities; preparing cost estimates for project materials, labor, time and equipment needed to complete projects; preparing project budgets; coordinating the work of carpentry and construction crews with other departments’ crews and/or outside contractors; and overseeing the preparation and maintenance of required paperwork.� Work is performed with limited supervision and the incumbent is required to exercise independent judgment and technical expertise. Supervision is received from the Building Construction Superintendent.

    Minimum Qualifications

    High school diploma or GED and four (4) years of experience as a foreman or lead worker supervising skilled and unskilled workers constructing buildings, additions, large renovations, and minor carpentry repairs at a journeyman level.� � NOTE: Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered. � � � �

    Special Requirements

    Must have and maintain a valid Driver’s License and an insurable driving record.� Must work overtime, nights, and weekends for emergencies and special events.� Must be willing to be on-call on a rotational basis.

    Kind of Examination
