Building and Grounds Supervisor supervises and trains building and grounds maintenance staff. Oversees landscaping activities, the maintenance of sidewalks and parking areas, and the removal of trash and snow. Being a Building and Grounds Supervisor maintains and monitors the operation of all utility systems such as heating, ventilating and air conditioning. May be responsible for the housekeeping staff. Additionally, Building and Grounds Supervisor, a level I supervisor is considered a working supervisor with little authority for personnel actions. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Working team member that may validate or coordinate the work of others on a support team. Suggests improvements to process, is a knowledge resource for other team members. Has no authority for staff actions. Generally has a minimum of 2 years experience as an individual contributor. Building Inspection Supervisor - Development Services Division

    As a Code Enforcement team supervisor, you will oversee a group of 6-7 technical, professional, and administrative staff.  The expanded Code Enforcement Section is organized into 2 Product Lines: Permit Compliance and Community Services which will work together to enforce development regulations and the property maintenance code on private property in unincorporated Pierce County.  You will help to streamline operations and improve compliance with regulatory standards.  Your leadership will be instrumental in helping the section evolve into a next-generation Code Enforcement Section by leveraging technology, innovation, and collaboration.  Your work here will help ensure responsible growth, quality of life, community pride, and environmental sustainability to enrich the lives of all who call Pierce County home.

    You will work closely with the PPW management team and be a key member of the Development Services Division, who will help guide you through onboarding and integration into the Department, as well as how to lead in a large, matrix organization.  As a PPW supervisor, you will also be part of the Expanded Management Team and expected to complete the County’s Bronze Leadership Certification program.     Core Daily Responsibilities: 
    • Conduct field inspections with inspectors to review unusual problems and to provide direction and assistance in resolving customer questions and complaints.
    • Recommend and assist in the implementation of division goals, objectives, practices, and procedures.
    • Effectively persuade, inform, educate, train, solicit information, motivate, and direct a wide variety of individuals or groups.
    • Investigate complaints concerning alleged building code violations, evaluate damaged structures, and coordinate section activities with other County sections or departments.
    • Provide input and review necessary documentation for appeal hearings and court cases; appear in court to present evidence of noncompliance.

    • Additional education or experience which clearly indicates the ability to perform the essential functions of this position may substitute on a year for year basis.
    • Graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in Construction Management, Architecture, or Engineering.
    • Five or more years of relevant experience.
    • One year in a supervisory/lead capacity.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Additional I.C.C. certification as a Fire Code Inspector or Building Official is desirable.
    Licenses or Certifications
    Professional Certification required in the following categories:
    1. ICC Building Inspector (Residential and Commercial)
    2. ICC Mechanical (Inspector or Plans Examiner)
    3. ICC or IAPMO Plumbing (Inspector or Plans Examiner)

    I.C.C. certification as a Commercial Combination Inspector may substitute for certification as a Plumbing Inspector. Must maintain all job-related certifications.
