BUILDING INSPECTOR inspects initial construction and additional repairs to ensure adherence to contract specifications, building ordinances, and zoning laws. May be assigned to residential or commercial structures. Being a BUILDING INSPECTOR may require an advanced degree. Typically reports to supervisor or manager. The BUILDING INSPECTOR works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. Work is closely managed. To be a BUILDING INSPECTOR typically requires 0-2 years of related experience. KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND CAPACITIES: A working knowledge of the principles and practices of building construction and repair; a working knowledge of materials used; the ability to interpret and apply construction plans and specifications; the ability to understand and apply the recommendations of an architect; the ability to compose simple written reports; and related capacities and abilities.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Education: Such as may have been gained through: graduation from a senior high school; and
Experience: Such as may have been gained through: employment in a position involved with the inspection of building construction and materials.
Or, any combination of education and experience that shall be substantially equivalent to the above education and experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
At the time of appointment must be physically qualified to perform assigned duties as evidenced by a physician's certificate.
