  • Position Summary:

    Terremoto is seeking a Sr. Director of Business Development (Biotech) to lead multiple functions within the BD organization. Reporting directly to the Chief Business Officer, the Sr. Director of BD is a strategically minded businessperson who would own all aspects of market and competitive intelligence, commercial assessments, search and evaluation strategy, among other areas, and would support the CBO and CEO in corporate strategy development, fundraising, communications and strategic transactions.

     Key Responsibilities:

    • Market Intelligence: Partner closely with the heads of R&D to bring in relevant external information to inform internal program and portfolio decision-making.
      • Develop and improve processes for gathering, summarizing, and distributing competitive intelligence insights (clinical and pre-clinical) relevant to Terremoto’s pipeline.
      • Maintain and update competitive landscape analyses and competitor profiles for Terremoto’s disease areas and targets of focus, and deliver accurate, timely, and actionable updates to key stakeholders (e.g., key readouts, launch estimates, catalysts).
      • Attend and lead CI efforts at selected scientific conferences (a few times per year).
      • Manage a network of secondary data sources.
      • Develop contact network for gaining rapid insights into relevant market news.
    • Commercial Assessments: Provide stage-appropriate commercial analyses / perspectives on Terremoto current pipeline programs and potential new targets and indications of interest.
      • Develop and refine early commercial analyses (market sizing, peak sales/share forecasting), utilizing secondary sources, for indications relevant to Terremoto’s pipeline.
      • Partner with heads of R&D to conduct high level commercial opportunity assessments to prioritize new targets and indications for future development.
      • Manage consultants and vendors as appropriate for specialized analyses.
    • Search & Evaluation: On a targeted basis and in collaboration with R&D heads, identify assets and technologies complementary to Terremoto’s pipeline and capabilities, and lead evaluations of potential collaboration and in-license opportunities.
    • Corporate Development: Work alongside CBO and CEO on corporate strategy, business development and capital raising initiatives.
      • Assist in developing Terremoto’s corporate narrative to communicate with outside investors, partners and collaborators.
      • As opportunities arise, drive execution of potential ‘sell-side’ BD processes through development of management materials, quarterbacking due diligence, negotiating collaboration and license agreements, providing relevant financial analyses.
      • Support CBO and CEO in investor relations and future financing processes.

    Qualifications:

    • Passion for working in a small biotech: consistent with Terremoto’s culture, candidate should be entrepreneurial, intellectually curious and be able to lead workstreams independently, while also being collaborative and capable of working cross-functionally.
    • Deep familiarity with the drug development process and scientific concepts: ability to rapidly review and summarize key insights from scientific publications and clinical data; ability to distinguish key drivers of differentiation between programs and development approaches.
    • Understanding of and exposure to biotech business transactions: conceptual understanding of puts and takes in licensing and collaboration deals; ability to complete high level transaction analyses; experience with running a due diligence process; exposure to deal negotiations and transaction agreements.

    Education:

    • 8 years relevant experience, including industry experience at a drug development / pharmaceutical company AND generalist business experience in consulting, investment banking or equity research
    • Minimum Bachelor’s degree required; MBA preferred but not required
    • Scientific background or advanced degree preferred but not required. Must be familiar with scientific concepts and the drug development process

     

    * The anticipated salary range for candidates who will work in South San Francisco, CA is $245,000 to $265,000. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type, and length of experience within the industry, education, etc. Terremoto Biosciences, is a multi-state employer and this salary range may not reflect positions that work only in other states.
