Business Development Director directs the execution of the business development vision, strategy, plans, and processes to drive sales, increase revenue, expand markets, and accomplish financial objectives. Identifies and evaluates new markets, partners, channels, and customers. Being a Business Development Director develops and uses contacts and relationships within the industry, business environment, and customer base to understand and respond to competition, pricing, and product demand changes. Oversees the development of proposals and contracts for new business opportunities and manages negotiations. Additionally, Business Development Director collaborates with marketing, sales, product development, and other stakeholders to support business development plans. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Business Development Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Business Development Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     SUMMARY: This position reports to the VP of Construction. The Director, Los Angeles Group has primary responsibility for the best interest of the overall goals and objectives of the company, bottom line results, customer satisfaction, sales goals and profits on bids while also expanding and diversifying markets and customer base. This position will play an intricate role in growing the Los Angeles market and providing leadership during all phases of a project's lifecycle.
    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
    • Lead the expansion of Baker Electric’s business units in the acquisition and execution of new construction projects in Los Angeles and other Southern California territories.
    • Primarily focus on business development and operations, while being responsible for business strategy, hiring of staff, and overall group success.
    • Work closely with the leadership team to determine the best way to penetrate potential markets and increase over-all market share.
    • Collaboratively build the business to maximize market opportunities available, while diversifying markets and customer base.
    • Achieve sales goals and profit objectives on bid, booked, and executed work within the region.
    • Oversee and be responsible for risk management of estimated costs during bidding process, financial Project Budgets (manpower, money, material) and contractual liability (prime and subcontract terms and conditions).
    • Maintain a hand’s on management and leadership style that facilitates open communication.
    • Partner with peers on the training and development of the Project Managers, and Estimators with secondary responsibility to the Field Supervisors, and the Field Foremen.
    • Responsible for staffing, training and developing a regional team of Operations, Project Managers, and support staff.
    • Monitor the field labor budgets for variance against the original budgets and make recommendations for corrective action.
    • Maintaining extensive knowledge of the current developments in the business market in order to assess the position of the company and determine how to improve it.
    • Responsible for the negotiation of contracts with clients.
    EDUCATION, SKILL, EXPERIENCE:
    • (5) years’ experience of managing (12) or more electricians and service technicians in a commercial electrical operation within multi branch office environment
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Outlook
    • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred
    • Minimum of an Associate's degree in a relevant field or the completion of a journeyman program required and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience
    • (5) plus years of demonstrated successful experience managing operations groups
    • (5) years’ experience of business development and project management
    • Estimating experience a plus with working knowledge of Accubid
    • Applicant must be familiar with a variety of the electrical field's concepts, practices, best practice, and procedures including the technical ability to understand and interpret Electrical Codes, Life Safety Codes, NFPA, Uniform Building Codes and Lighting Systems where applicable
    • Experience and knowledge of electrical applications, permits, electrical maintenance goals, Facility Maintenance Application & PM standards
    • Willingness to Travel to Job Sites – Approximately 20%

    The starting salary for this opportunity range is listed. Other rewards may include annual bonus eligibility, which is based on company and individual performance, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards.
