Position summary: The Business Development Manager is directly responsible for marketing, securing, and maintaining business development in Erie, Huron, Ottawa and Sandusky counties. Business development encompasses manufacturing as well as any other Goodwill business ventures. He/she is responsible for establishing a business growth plan based on local/regional economic indicators and current organization competencies.
Essential functions:
· Responsible for all initiatives and goals of the organization’s strategic plan related to business development to ensure consistent growth and sustainable operations over time.
· Develop and implement annual and long-term departmental goals for new and existing contracts for business development that are based on monthly revenue benchmarks, local/regional economic indicators and community needs, a broad base of diversified business, and current organizational capabilities.
· Develop and implement action plans that include completed calls to prospects, appointments with potential customers with a follow up relationship proposal, and project bids each month. Closely monitor results against benchmarks and proactively respond to variances; submit periodic reports as required by the Director of Commercial Services and/or President and CEO.
· Monitor expense and revenues to ensure business development operations remain within budget and meet production benchmarks.
· Research other Goodwill organizations for successful business development that may be modeled and implemented locally.
· Assist Marketing Manager in the development of marketing plans/materials for business development including a database of former, existing and prospective customers for use as sales leads and a sales presentation that emphasizes “closing the deal.”
· Communicate to prospective and existing clients the Goodwill mission and benefits to the business in utilizing Goodwill services.
· Serve as primary relationship manager for contract services, responding to customer inquiries, problems and complaints and resolving issues to maintain customer satisfaction. Inform senior management of feedback from customers on the quality of services rendered and recommendations for product or services development. Conduct periodic customer satisfaction surveys.
· Develop a solid network of business contacts within the four-county service area and regional, state and national settings, as appropriate. Regularly attend meetings with Chambers of Commerce; economic development, business and other professional associations; industrial safety, manufacturing, and recycling associations, etc.
· Work closely with Director of Commercial Services, Industrial Engineer and Plant Managers in contract development and to ensure accurate and competitive price bids or quotes for products and services.
· Pursue professional career development through continuing education and training opportunities; increase knowledge/understanding of industry trends, innovative approaches, and business forecasting to grow Goodwill business development.
· Maintain regular and reliable attendance and punctuality.
· Attend safety trainings and follow all safety procedures and protocols to always ensure a safe and supervised work environment for all employees.
· Promote positive teamwork among co-workers.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Quality Assurance Functions
· Work closely with Director of Commercial Services in business development and to ensure accurate and competitive price bids or quotes for products and services.
· Review monthly production reports and recommend improvements to increase revenue, output, quality, or safety.
· Assist in establishing quality standards for each new contract.
· Ensure compliance with ISO 9000, OSHA, CARF and other required standards for individual quality and safety.
· Perform “end of contract” reviews on each contract and submit to Director of Commercial Services with recommendations.
Qualifications and required skills:
· Demonstrated ability to communicate, present, and influence credibly and effectively: negotiation skills.
· Professional appearance and demeanor.
· Attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records are essential.
· Excellent customer service skills.
· Strong computer skills with experience in Microsoft Office, Paycor and other accounting software specific to Goodwill.
· Valid driver’s license with good driving record with proof of current automobile insurance.
Education and experience:
· Bachelor’s degree in business administration, engineering, marketing, or a related field preferred.
· 2 years senior level experience in manufacturing.
· 2 years’ experience as a sales representative or sales manager, consistently meeting or exceeding targets, preferably in manufacturing field.
