Udder Health Systems is primarily a bovine diagnostics laboratory that serves dairymen across America to ensure quality milk for their herds. In addition to the milk quality work, we are proud to offer food safety testing at our Jerome location. We also produce scientific media at our Meridian location, that is shipped to customers internationally.

The Milk Laboratory Analyst is our “boots on the ground” position responsible for completing sample set up, data entry, plating specimens, reading and recording results within efficiency and quality standards.
This position requires an analyst with strong experience in laboratory work, including the ability to use advanced equipment and complete testing utilizing microbiology. The Laboratory Analyst will be involved in all aspects of the scientific process, from receiving samples, testing, and reporting. We are looking for an individual with skills and cultural alignment to join our team.
Responsibilities:
Operational Efficiency
- Receive and rack incoming samples and prepare admission sheets
- Plate samples based on specific test codes. Read and identify organisms on plates, prepare and read Gram positive stains and wet mounts. Routinely identify Level 1, 2, and 3 organisms and complete corresponding level tests
- Perform PCR, Mass Spectrometry, and other advances testing techniques
Operational Accuracy
- Ensure all samples are correctly recorded and set for appropriate test(s)
- Perform tests for Milk Quality
- Utilize the Milklab program to record results and maintain customer information. May utilize Microsoft Office programs for various purposes, as needed, including Excel and Access. Set up new customers in the customer management system, edit customer information, as appropriate, look up results, and print reports.
Observations and Monitoring
- Help monitor media inventory and supplies to ensure the laboratory is adequately stocked
- Collaborate with account managers if an unusual test request comes in or if unordinary results are found
Continuous Improvement
- Maintain control library of organisms
- Learn, understand, and interpret LOM and BOM
- Attend community events or other business development/marketing activities to represent UHS
- Pursue continued education opportunities, as provided by UHS
Teamwork and Communication
- Participate in herd culture activities, if necessary
- Maintain all sanitation requirements of the lab, including autoclaving old plates, disinfecting procedures and standards, putting loops away, and storing all plates and samples for the day in proper places. Wipe out incubators each month and keep entire facility clean to ensure safe microbiological testing conditions. Maintain sanitation of the lab surfaces and equipment per protocols
- Respond to customer requests, take media or test orders, and share results with Account Managers/Field Staff
- Dispose of samples in accordance to protocols
- Develop through Analyst Levels and complete training, as assigned
- Demonstrate excellent teamwork and communication with co-workers
