Job Summary:

The purchaser will perform purchasing tasks and services to support effective and efficient operations of the organization's purchasing department.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Develop specific procurement & parts objectives with an emphasis on cost reduction, quality improvement, technology development, on time delivery, inventory reduction, lead-time reduction, and customer focus.
• Initiate purchase orders for inventory, maintenance, repair, operations (MRO) as necessary to support the Ox business.
• Determine the best source of supply by evaluating all pertinent information, including but not limited to, price, quality, manufacturing capabilities, lead time, service support, and financial. Prepare information required to process a purchase order.
• Keep inventory investment and inventory losses at a reasonable balance between the level of inventory required to support operations and the cost of carrying inventory.
• Participate in supplier problem solving; escalate problems to Purchasing Manager as needed.
• Coordinate return of goods while communicating to all involved as needed.
• Resolve purchase order acknowledgements with suppliers involving delivery and or pricing discrepancies
• Resolve supplier delivery problems contributing to stockouts.
• Be proactive in preventing stock outages.
• Maintain a neat and orderly work area complying with all 5S initiatives.
• Provide supply room coverage, as needed.
• Perform other duties, assignments, and special projects as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.

Experience: Purchasing experience is required. Ability to work with PC’s (MS Office) and MRP system preferably Syteline. Experience and good working knowledge of Ox Bodies’ business operating system strongly preferred. Company, product, and process knowledge is strongly preferred.

Skills: Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Clear and precise oral and written communication skills. Strong reasoning and independent decision-making skills.

Other: Ability to question and evaluate systems/procedures for the most efficient uses, better communications, and process improvements. Ability to deal effectively with buyers and vendors promoting a positive company image while ensuring the most advantageous relationships with vendors is maintained. Ability to attend and participate in required company meetings. Must be a team player that works with others in the company to meet company goals.

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
