Prepares computer-aided design (CAD) drafts, drawings, and schematics derived from a variety of specifications, layouts, blueprints, and sketches. Being a CAD Drafter maintains deadlines, goals, and production standards set by the department. Coordinates and consults with engineers or designers to complete projects. Additionally, CAD Drafter transforms initial rough product designs into working documents using CAD software. Collaborates with design originators to resolve discrepancies between original drawings and final CAD designs. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary
The Drafter operates a Computer-Aided Design (CAD) computer system, including creating, updating, and modifying maps, and performs manual drafting. Other related duties will be assigned as needed.
Essential Functions

1. Creates CAD drawings for projects.
2. Creates and modifies maps for special assignments.
3. Incorporates subdivision plats and drawing files into maps.
4. Plots new maps.
5. Copies project drawings.
6. Creates manual drawings for engineering projects.
7. Greets customers and the general public in person and on the telephone, answer questions and directs to appropriate individuals when necessary.
8. May assist in developing survey maps and layouts when necessary.
9. Works closely with building regulating agencies, builders, contractors, and the general public.
10. Aides in creating estimates for purchasing.
11. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

This is a largely sedentary role; however, some filing is required. The ability to lift files, open filing cabinets, and bend or stand as necessary would be required.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position.

Occasional local day travel may be required.
Required Education and Experience
1. Associate’s degree or completion of a technical trade school in CAD, drafting, or related field, plus at least three years of related work experience or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
