    JOB DESCRIPTION

    • Pay starts at $48222, plus a $4,000 annual state incentive upon completion of police academy, for a total of $52,222, with higher pay for up to five years of experience for lateral candidates.
    • Prevents crime by explaining and enforcing applicable federal, state, and local laws and ordinances; teaching preventive, protective, and defensive tactics; mediating disputes; patrolling assigned area; responding to notices of disturbances; conducting searches; observing suspicious activities; detaining suspects.
    • Apprehends suspects by responding to complaints and calls for help; observing violations; making arrests.
    • Conducts criminal investigations by gathering evidence; interviewing victims and witnesses; interrogating suspects.
    • Documents observations and actions by radioing information; completing written reports.
    • Reports observations and actions by testifying in court.
    • Fulfills court orders by serving warrants, protection orders, and other court orders.
    • Maintains safe traffic conditions by monitoring and directing traffic; enforcing laws and ordinances; investigating accidents; providing escort; reporting unsafe streets and facilities.
    • Maintains operations by following department policies and procedures; recommending changes, and maintaining high ethical standards.
    • Ensures operation of equipment by practicing use; completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; notifying supervisor of needed repairs; evaluating new equipment and techniques.

    JOB QUALIFICATIONS FOR ELIZABETHTOWN POLICE OFFICER

    • Be a U.S. Citizen
    • 21 years of age at the time of written test
    • High School Graduate or GED
    • No Felony Convictions
    • Able to read, write, and understand English
    • Valid Operator’s License
    • Not prohibited by state or federal law from possessing a firearm
    • Have not received a dishonorable discharge or general discharge under dishonorable conditions from a military service branch.
    • Have not had certification as a peace officer revoked from another state
    • Be able to pass a background investigation
    • Be able to pass all physical and suitability screening examinations required to be a police officer, including a polygraph examination

    • No visible tattoos on hands, face, or neck.
