Duties:
- Enforce laws and ordinances to maintain public safety and order
- Patrol assigned areas to prevent and detect criminal activity
- Respond to emergency calls and provide assistance as needed
- Conduct investigations, gather evidence, and make arrests when necessary
- Write detailed reports documenting incidents, observations, and actions taken
- Provide traffic control and enforce traffic laws
- Assist with crowd control at public events or demonstrations
- Collaborate with other law enforcement agencies on joint operations or investigations
- Provide support and assistance to victims of crime or accidents
Requirements:
- PA Municipal Police Officer Training Certification (Act120)
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of a certified police academy training program
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Ability to pass a comprehensive background investigation, including criminal history check and drug screening
- Excellent physical fitness and ability to meet department fitness standards
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to remain calm and make quick decisions in high-pressure situations
- Knowledge of laws, legal procedures, and law enforcement techniques
- Ability to handle firearms safely and effectively

Part-time position with the Jefferson Township Police Department (Lackawanna County). The employee is required to be available to work a flexible work schedule, as scheduling for the part-time Police Department varies including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Operating police vehicles, applying knowledge of laws and active patrols within Jefferson Township are all typical functions of this position. The employee will be responsible for regular patrols to maintain law and order, protect members of the public and their properties, prevent crime and improve citizens' quality of life. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Previous Experience/License: Completion of PA STATE MUNICIPAL POLICE TRAINING (Act 120). Minimum one year previous experience desired, PA drivers license is required. Specific Skills/Knowledge and Abilities: Report writing, Strong public relations skills, Excellent communication skills, Previous firearms and protective skills, Knowledge of related agencies (i.e., Court system, FBI, Pennsylvania State Police).
Patrolmen may work up to 30 hours per week including evenings, weekends, and holidays. All applicants MUST have completed PA STATE MUNICIPAL POLICE TRAINING (Act 120).
