Campus Police Officer conduct patrols on campus to ensure security of buildings, students and staff. Responds to requests for assistance and emergencies. Being a Campus Police Officer enforces vehicle and traffic regulations. Investigates crimes. Additionally, Campus Police Officer may conduct educational activities related to safety and crime prevention. Typically require associate degree in criminal justice. May require POST(Peace Office Standards and Training) certification. Typically reports to Police Supervisor. The Campus Police Officer occasionally directed in several aspects of the work.     The written examination and physical fitness examination will be held on April 27, 2024. If both of those examinations are completed, police board and civil service interviews will be conducted on April 29, 2024. The certified applicant list for hiring will be posted at the conclusion of the interviews on March 4, 2024.

    Employment with the Fayetteville Police Department provides an excellent opportunity for a law enforcement career with a professional and progressive department. Once employed, new recruits are issued all equipment and uniforms necessary for the job.

    Training

    Recruits are required to attend a 13-week Basic Police Training Course at the Arkansas Law Enforcement Training Academy. The academy training includes topics such as:

    • Accident investigation
    • Criminal law
    • Defensive tactics
    • Drug enforcement
    • Firearms training
    • Report writing

    While at the academy, recruits are paid a full salary of a first year officer. Upon graduation from the academy, the new officers begin an 18-week Field Training Program. This program is designed to give them on the job training with an experienced police officer and allow them to work on various patrol shifts. After completing the Field Training Program, new officers are assigned to a patrol shift and evaluated throughout their 18-month probationary period.

    Officers also receive individual training opportunities to enhance job performance and develop specialized skills throughout their careers. After the probationary period, an officer has the opportunity to apply for a variety of specialized assignments, such as:
