Campus Police Supervisor leads the investigation and apprehension of campus criminals. Protects life and property safety on campus. Being a Campus Police Supervisor ensures compliance with state laws, city ordinances, and university regulations. May require a bachelor's degree. Additionally, Campus Police Supervisor requires P. O.S.T. certification. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Campus Police Supervisor manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Campus Police Supervisor typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required. Performs general police work in law enforcement, crime prevention and public protection. Patrols streets, public places and residences while on foot or auto to prevent crimes and enforce laws and ordinances. Does preliminary investigations, makes arrests, protects crime scenes and preserves evidence. In the absence of traffic section, investigates motor vehicle accidents, renders aid, directs traffic and prepares reports. May be assigned special duties such as neighborhood watch officer, public relations officer and training officer. Performs other related duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Field environment may be exposed to the possibility of personal bodily harm.
NM Class D Driver’s License. 19 yrs of age or older. Drug & Alcohol tests required. High School Diploma or equivalent Prefer AA or BA degree in Police Science Preferred NMDPS Certified or Certifiable or currently enrolled in a Police Academy Preferred 1 to 3 years experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified
US Citizenship; No criminal convictions involving felonies, moral turpitude and/or domestic violence.
Must pass physical fitness test at the minimum required entry-level standards as set forth by the NM Law Enforcement Academy. Must pass medical fitness exam; psychological inventory (MNP1); and drug screening tests. Able to perform defensive tactics, firearm training, and other related trainings requiring specific physical abilities. Must have a favorable background investigation.
