    Position Description & Details


    We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Campus Police Officer to join our team. The Campus Police Officer is responsible for maintaining a visible law enforcement presence on college property through conscientious vehicle and foot patrol operations. This position is considered essential personnel and involves active participation in all phases of Community Oriented Policing. The Campus Police Officer will also assist the Campus Police Chief in ensuring compliance with federal mandates and perform other duties as assigned.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Conduct conscientious vehicle and foot patrols to ensure the safety and security of college property.
    • Actively participate in all phases of Community Oriented Policing to foster positive relationships within the college community.
    • Assist the Campus Police Chief in compliance with federal mandates and other assigned duties.
    • Ensure a visible and approachable presence to address concerns and maintain a safe environment.
    • Engage with students, faculty, and staff to promote a sense of security and community.
    • Respond to emergencies, incidents, and requests for assistance promptly and effectively.
    • Collaborate with local law enforcement agencies as necessary.

    PHYSICAL EFFORT: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

    • Continuously – 66-100% - Use hands dexterously, talk or hear. Writing, discriminating colors, remembering details, examining/observing details, and concentrating amid distractions. Working in various environmental conditions - inside and outside.
    • Frequently – 34-65% - Stand, walk, or sit. Directing others, using math, remembering names, and making decisions.
    • Occasionally – 1-33% - Reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop/kneel/crouch, or crawl, push/pull, lift to 50 pounds, and work with hazards.
    • Continuously sitting or standing for 8-10 hours Up to 10 days per month.
    • Frequently exposed to hazardous situations that might include crowd management, chemical spills, the first responder to accidents or emergencies, and the exposure to bloodborne pathogens 10 minutes – 10 hours Up to 10 days per month
    • Frequently perform many work duties in inclement weather 6-8 hours Up to 4 days per month,
    • Occasionally moving heavy objects i.e., push a car out of the roadway 5 minutes Up to 2 times per month
    • Occasionally lift heavy objects 5 minutes Up to 2 times per month
    • Occasionally exposed to loud noise, firing range, siren, and alarms for 2-4 hours Up to 2-3 times per month

    Minimum Requirements

    • Associate degree (or 60 semester hours of college credit) with a GPA of 2.0 or better from an accredited college or university, validated by transcripts; OR three (3) years of military experience; OR three (3) years of experience as a licensed Peace Officer.
    • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
    • Ability to acquire a North Dakota Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) License within a year.
    • Successful completion of the pre-interview and interview process.
    • Reference checks, passing a physical and psychological exam, drug screen, and standard background and criminal record checks are required to determine knowledge, skill, and abilities to perform Campus Police Officer duties and responsibilities.
