Library Supervisor - Cascade Campus

  • The Portland Community College Library is hiring a Library Supervisor. The Library Supervisor reports to the Library Access Services Manager and is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Access Services department at the Cascade Library in North Portland.
    The Library Supervisor schedules and supervises Access Services staff, works with internal and external campus partners, and is responsible for managing an assigned functional area across the district (stacks, resource sharing, course reserves, or equipment). The Library Supervisor works cooperatively with all library employees (managers, classified staff, and faculty) to build an environment that communicates inclusivity and inspires a sense of belonging and collaboration in a diverse community of staff and students. This position also works closely with the other campus Supervisors and the Access Services Manager to deliver consistent and equitable services to library users in order to fulfill the Library and College missions.

    Master’s degree in Library Science or related from an American Library Association accredited institution or international equivalent, or six (6) years of library experience; one (1) year lead or supervisory experience.


    Knowledge of:

    Library systems such as automation and resource sharing;
    Institutional repositories;
    Interlibrary loan technologies;
    Inventory principles;
    Conflict management principles;
    Basic budgeting principles;
    Safety procedures;
    Computer technology software, such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.


    Skill in:

    Supervising subordinate staff;
    Interpreting and applying applicable laws, rules, and regulations, such as FERPA and copyright;
    Monitoring and maintaining a library collection;
    Monitoring the performance of vendors and contractors;
    Resolving conflict;
    Preparing a variety of financial reports related to departmental operational activities;
    Developing, recommending, implementing, and monitoring policies, procedures, and workflow;
    Working with diverse academic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and staff;
    Utilizing computer technology used for communication, point of sales, data gathering and generating reports;
    Communicating effectively through oral and written mediums.

    Starting Salary Expectations
    Minimum $51,895 to range midpoint of $63,570. Placement will generally not exceed the mid-point, based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity.

    Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
    Work is generally performed in an academic library environment, with frequent interruptions and irregularities in the work schedule. Work schedule will be regular but may vary in order to support library operations and maintain appropriate staffing levels. Evening or weekend hours may be required. Travel between campuses may be required. Frequent reaching, walking, standing, lifting, stooping, or carrying of equipment or library materials may be required. Incumbents may be required to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
