Senior Director of Finance (Avery or Winston-Salem Campus)

  • Crossnore Communities for Children is seeking a Senior Director of Finance to join our team.  This position will oversee the day to day operations of the Finance team, and manage accounting and finance functions for the organization. This includes assisting in high-level accounting, budgeting and financial analysis. Skills in Revenue Cycle, Electronic Medical/Health Record (EM/HR), business planning and Business Processes Improvement are highly desirable.

    Hiring Range: $83,000 - $98,000 annually

    Location:  Western, North Carolina

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Education/Experience
    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field required; Master’s in Business Administration or CPA credentials strongly preferred.
    • Minimum of 8 years of mid-management to upper-management leadership experience in Finance/Accounting (with 5 years experience providing direct supervision).
    • Minimum of 5 years experience in financial modeling, data analysis, reporting, budgeting, revenue cycles, forecasting, investments, and retirement plans.
    • Experience with not for profit accounting required.
    • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

    Skills/Competencies
    • Expert level knowledge of Finance and Accounting principles and practices.
    • Extensive knowledge of accounting and reporting software. Must be highly proficient in financial management, payroll & accounting technology systems, data management systems, Excel, Microsoft, and Google Suite.
    • Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations governing financial functions and reporting requirements.
    • Must be highly skilled in:  Behavioral health and child welfare services billing processes and procedures, federal and state grant accounting and reporting, revenue cycling, and cost accounting.
    • Ability to quickly establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, community partners, and vendors.  Ability to work well with others, able to build consensus around Finance strategy and initiatives.  
    • Ability to translate financial concepts to – and to effectively collaborate with -- programmatic and fundraising colleagues who do not necessarily have finance backgrounds.
    • Strong leader dedicated to providing quality, comprehensive, and inclusive services.
    • Ability to think strategically and develop key performance indicators for oneself and team.

    JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Oversee day to day operations and processes for the Finance team.
    • Assist in the establishment and maintenance of an adequate system of internal controls, including property and inventory accounting. 
    • Provide direct supervision of all finance operations & accounting staff and oversee the evaluating, and training of the staff. Assist in the selection of staff along with other team members. 
    • Prepare supporting information & reconciliations for all philanthropic gifts; support private, foundation, state and federal grant accounting; assists in the completion of follow-up reports for grants awarded.
    • Direct the AR and AP functions including the receipting of incoming checks and wire transfers. This includes collections and write-offs of AR as necessary. 
    • Oversee the Behavioral health and child welfare services billing processes and procedures, including contracting specific to NC Medicaid (LMCO & PHPs), commercial, and county payors and all placement-based, and fee-for-service programs.
    • Assist in contract negotiations by providing expertise and support to help manage and mitigate financial risk and foster financial transparency, accountability, and interdepartmental collaboration.
    • Oversee the financial processes for credit card issuance, and tracking credit card expenses.
    • Maintain the fixed asset accounting system to ensure that the system remains updated as assets are added and deleted, and depreciation is recorded on a monthly basis.
    • Promote cross functional collaboration as a component of operationalizing Finance policy, procedures, strategic plan and priorities.
    • Collaborate with the VP Finance/CFO and Finance team to respond to and/or identify new opportunities to expand services. 
    • Effectively leads teams, cooperating with others to develop and obtain common goals.
    • In the absence of the VP of Finance/CFO this position will supervise the leadership of the retail and dietary departments.
    • Assist the VP of Finance/CFO in collaboration with banks and investment entities to maintain customer/client relationships.
    • Oversee cash flow, and make recommendations as needed. Assist with financial planning,and alerts leadership regarding potential financial risks and liabilities.
    • Assist in analyzing and presenting financial reports in an accurate and timely manner to leadership.
    • Assist with annual budget preparation and analysis.
    • Provide backup and quality control oversight for the payroll process
    • Assist the VP Finance/CFO manage the audit preparations process and update and implement all necessary business policies and accounting practices for the organization. 
    • Perform all assigned responsibilities in accordance with federal, state and local laws and applicable rules and regulations.
    • Perform periodic internal audits of programs, fund development revenue and business entities.
    • Participate in Crossnore agency leadership meetings and activities.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    DAYS/HOURS OF POSITION and WORK CONDITIONS:   
    Typical hours are 1st shift, Monday-Friday, with some weekend/evening hours depending upon department needs.  Hybrid position. Flexibility required to travel to the 3 Crossnore locations (Avery County, Hendersonville and Winston-Salem), and occasionally for necessary meetings.  
     
    PHYSICAL DEMANDS  - Light
    Position may require lifting to 20 pounds  at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. Frequent walking, standing, and sitting. Frequent reaching and/or grasping using hands and/or arms. May be required to ascend/descend stairs. Frequent use of hands requiring dexterity in using the telephone, computer keyboard, or other objects. Visual ability including distance, peripheral and depth perception. Ability to drive. Regularly required to talk and hear.
