Lifeguard & Swim Lesson Instructor Position Description:
Swim Lessons: Teach swimming lessons to youth ages 3 - 12 years of age by following the American Red Cross “Learn to Swim” program that includes ARC levels Pre-K 1 - 3 (2.5 - 5 years) and Learn to Swim levels 1 – 6 (5 - 16 years). Class sizes will vary from 3 to 12 students per instructor. Class length is 30-minutes with 15-minutes between classes. Instructors are required to teach from “in the water” for all Pre-K classes and Learn to Swim levels 1 - 2. Instructors may teach from the pool deck for Learn to Swim levels 3-6. Some lifeguarding responsibilities during class are also required.
Lifeguard: A USD lifeguard monitors pool activities and ensures patron safety to prevent and respond to safety concerns and emergencies. Lifeguards need to possess knowledge of rescue procedures and emergency medical procedures. To help prevent incidents, lifeguards must enforce all safety guidelines as outlined by USD. Lifeguards must remain alert throughout an entire shift to maintain safety. Additional job duties a lifeguard performs include preparing activity and incident reports and performing pool maintenance.
Responsibilities
Primary Lifeguard responsibilities include; Supervise pool deck area and lifeguard 25 yard x 40 yard college swimming pool; Monitor safety of pool area and patrons; Enforce pool usage and facility policies during open swim and during reserved usage time; Manage/Supervise large group events in the pool area; and secure facility during non-usage time. Secondary guard responsibilities include; open/close pool and pool deck as needed; and clean pool deck area and guarding/class equipment/supplies. Other duties as assigned.
Primary Swim Instructor responsibilities include; Provide swim lessons (private or group) to youth of all levels and abilities based on American Red Cross (ARC) standards and program requirements in ARC Learn to Swim; Monitor safety of all members in the swim class and os patrons swimming near the lesson zone; Provide feedback to both the child participant as well as to the parent/guardian before and/or after each class; Instruct and evaluate swim lesson skills per participant; and Submit completed report cards at the end of each 2-week session.
Other General: Responsibilities include; Attend mandatory staff training and meetings; work hours as scheduled which includes beginning and ending on time, answering parent/patron questions and cleaning up area within allotted time in schedule; and present professional appearance and attitude at all times. Other duties as assigned.
