  • Duties

    • Overhaul, maintain, and repair various types of small arms aid accessories of regularly and widely used design, and weapons which have unusual operation principles or critical operation tolerances.
    • Perform acceptance, initial, line, and final inspections in the shop and field of small arms up to and including (M249, M2, M240B, M4, M16, M107, M203, MK19, M9).
    • Disassemble automatic pistols, revolvers, shotguns, automatic rifles, sub-machine guns, ranging from 38 Caliber to 50 caliber machine guns, and other small arms to diagnose and locate mechanical deficiencies, malfunctions, and misalignment.
    • Maintain records, receive weapons, and prepare DA2404, DA2407, DA2407-1, read and understand manuals, schematics, and diagrams.

    • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation secret clearance T3.
    • One year trial period.
    • Position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
    • Position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted.
    • Position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
    • Position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
    • Term position scheduled to last 1 year and 1 day. A term position may be extended to a maximum of six years depending upon the needs of management.

    Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

    To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below.     Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) SMALL ARMS REPAIRER ~ without more than normal supervision. Perform common 1)maintenance and repair of small arms, making diagnosis and locating mechanical deficiencies and malfunctions in automatic pistols, revolvers, shotguns, carbine automatic rifles, submachine and machine guns, mortars, recoilless rifles, rocket launchers, and other small arms and accessories and 2) disassemble weapons, assemblies, subassemblies, and other components, examine for defeats, mechanical misalignment, and malfunctions: replace barrels, firing pins, springs, trigger mechanisms, shell ejectors, sights, safety devices, bolts, stacks and other parts and assemblies and modify small weapons and 3)use hand and machine tools, precision gauges, test instruments, jigs, and alignment devices in making repairs, modifications and adjustments; apply acids or other bluring or finishing agent; and 4)test fire and make operational checks of repaired weapons to assure safety, accuracy, and ease of operation. Work under normal supervision. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

    PHYSICAL EFFORTS

    Must independently lift and carry all small arms weapons often weighing from 15 to 50 pounds. Small arms weighing more than 50 pounds will be lifted and handled by two people or with a lifting device.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Works most of the time inside shop area at individual workbench. Concrete floors normally covered with rubber matting at workbench. Weapons are oily and frequently dirty. Incumbent is subject to cuts, scrapes, burns, bruises, shocks, mashed fingers and skin irritants.Occasionally, but rarely works at a firing range working from the back of a truck in the heat or cold exposed to the elements and noises of a firing range.Works on-site in a crowded arms room.
