Prepares written documentation as required by the profession and the department, regarding individualized treatment plans, evaluation results, and progress reports. Being a Cardiac Technician may require an associate degree or its equivalent. Also may require completion of a certificate in health technology or scientific instrumentation in electrocardiography. GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Provide thorough, proficient pacemaker and AICD interrogation and re-programming to cardiac device patients in person, remotely, and/or via phone transmission. Responsible for initial device analysis, preliminary report generation, and alerting physician or non-physician practitioner to urgent issues requiring further attention.
DUTIES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Interrogate, interpret, and re-program cardiac devices with minimal physician supervision.
2. Trouble shoot critical device issues and take immediate steps toward resolution.
3. Collaborate with physicians regarding device status and accurately document device analysis in EMR for review.
4. Educate patients on all aspects of their device including remote monitoring and follow-up protocol.
5. Ensure charges are accurately captured for device interrogation.
6. Schedule patients for device appointment follow up in EMR and remote website. Immediately contact “no show” patients to ensure they are re-scheduled.
7. Assist EP nurses and non-physician practitioners in the delivery of patient teaching.
8. Consistently travel to regional offices for assigned device clinics.
OTHER DUTIES
1. Participate in positive, proactive inter- and intra-departmental communication. Promote a healthy clinical environment and good working relationships. 2. Serve as resource to physicians and other practice employees regarding device patients and services. 3. Keep equipment in good working condition and notify appropriate personnel of problem areas or safety issues. Aug-13 4. Ensure programming rooms are adequately stocked with necessary supplies. 5. Participate in professional development activities and maintain professional affiliations.
Qualifications:
Minimum of five years experience analyzing and reprogramming cardiac pacemaker and AICDs (Biotronik, Boston Scientific, Medtronic, and St. Jude) OR cardiac device technology certification from a recognized device training school. Experience reviewing and managing remote device transmissions (Carelink, Latitude, and Merlin). Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred. Current BLS certification preferred.
