Summary:
The Career Advisor is assigned to a portfolio of academic programs and provides students in these majors with career education, advising, and connections to employers. The Career Advisor provides guidance to students on developing and managing their professional brand; facilitates connections to employers through on-campus recruiting and networking events; and educates students on effective job search strategies. The Career Advisor works collaboratively with the Deans and Academic Program Administrators to develop customized career programming and special events, and cultivates industry employer contacts for internships and full-time jobs. The Career Advisor utilizes career management technology to reach students and to optimize the provision of career services. The Career Advisor has an affiliate faculty appointment and teaches undergraduate courses in Career Exploration, First Year Seminar and/or Leadership as requested. The Career Advisor serves as a member of the CCC team and supports events and initiatives as assigned
Department: Career Connection Center
Education/Experience:
Masters degree in counseling, higher education, or a related field plus four years of experience working within career services or recruiting, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Demonstrated ability to monitor and leverage existing and emerging career fields, current employment trends, and employment opportunities.
- Ability to coach undergraduate and graduate students and alumni regarding their career development including exploration and job search strategies
- Proficiency in using job search and career counseling tools.
- Demonstrated ability to use current career development practices and employer recruiting trends to support connection to career for students and alumni.
- Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with others and to provide excellent customer service to students, employers, and all members of the campus community.
- Excellent organizational, multi-tasking, planning, time management, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; strong group presentation skills.

Physical Requirements:
Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Position requires sitting and standing for long periods of time in front of a computer and during presentations. Sedentary work. Keyboarding, talking, hearing, repetitive motions. Close visual acuity.
Essential Functions:
- Advise students in on job search strategies, resume development, interviewing, professional branding, networking, and other elements pertaining to their success.
- Administer and interpret career assessments and facilitate career management processes.
- Plan, organize, create and implement innovative solutions to outreach to current students within assigned academic majors to assist with their career management.
- Create and present workshops, seminars, and programming for students and alumni.
- Conduct industry and career related research for each of the assigned academic programs and develop relevant publications and resources for students within the programs to meet their specific needs.
- Understand and present current and projected labor market trends of appropriate industries to identify career opportunities for the students of each assigned School.
- Assist Director, Career Connection Center in building out and maintaining information and resources for students on the portal and external website.
- Research, study, and understand the assigned academic programs in order to be able to communicate with academic partners and prospective employers on how Stevenson students can meet their talent needs.
- Recruit private industry, non-profit organizations and government agency employers for Career Fairs, On-Campus Recruitment, networking events, workshops and seminars to prepare Stevenson students for the workplace.
- Research and conduct outreach to potential employers for industries represented by the assigned academic majors/school(s) to create career opportunities and pathways for students. Encourage student participation in industry specific career fairs, campus recruitment, symposiums, and other networking events.
- Serve as a liaison between employers and faculty within the academic program areas to make connections and increase partnerships.
- Collect job placement data on students in assigned majors/schools.
- Collaborate with Assistant Director, Data & Systems Management to utilize social media to connect with potential employers and students regarding events.
- Work collaboratively with other Career Advisors and deans, academic program administrators, faculty, and Career Connection Center staff to address students discipline expertise and arrange educational activities and programming that will enhance their knowledge and employability.
- Work with the assigned Stevenson majors/schools to develop a common protocol for internship coordination, evaluation records, and placement data for both internships and full-time career positions.
- Contribute to ongoing and annual assessment activities and reports as directed.
- Collate and organize job placement and internships reports for the assigned Stevenson majors/schools and present information at meetings and through publications.
- Attend industry specific associations and organization activities and events as assigned to better understand their business culture and workforce needs.
- Serve on higher education, industry professional and career associations, consortiums and other organizations as assigned to represent and enhance Stevenson University as a premiere and successful career preparation institution.
- Support diversity, equity and inclusion such as engaging in programs and trainings related to DEI.
- Teach undergraduate courses related to career and professional development.
