    POSITION SUMMARY

    Under the direction of the school principal, the College and Career Advisor will organize,
    maintain and operate a high school College & Career Advisement Center and provide a wide
    variety of career information and materials; communicate with students, faculty, parents and
    community representatives concerning career planning and college entrance. This position
    reports to the Principal.


    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Plans, organizes, develops, and implements career events and publications. Prepares letters, flyers, mailers, and other materials to publicize Career Center services, resources, and speaker programs. Plans and conducts Career Days, Career Month, Teen Job Fairs, and/or College Fairs.


    Provides career and college entrance information and assistance to students, teachers, parents and counselors. Coordinates day-to-day operations and schedules activities, programs, and speakers.


    Prepares career education and instructional materials for use by teachers and students. Assists students in locating and using college and career information as needed for research, assignments, and post-high school planning.


    Facilitates interest inventories, Career Experiences, and four-year planning. Contacts, schedules, and arranges guest speakers from the local business community, colleges, and military services to present information regarding specific occupations.


    Schedules visitations by representatives from local colleges. Organizes, coordinates, and publicizes career-related events and other opportunities for students to learn about higher education and vocational training and preparation.


    Provides information concerning scholastic aptitude and achievement tests. Assists students with applications and scheduling college tours. Distributes test results as appropriate.


    Develops and maintains a current and comprehensive occupational library including information on careers and career clusters, employment prospects, and trends and employment requirements and opportunities. Obtains and circulates current college catalogs.


    All other duties, as assigned and required, in order to perform the above
    services.


    KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS

    Master's degree in School Counseling or related field required.


    Minimum of three (3) years of counseling or three (3) years of Human Resources Recruitment experience in the private sector required.


    Knowledge of Post-Secondary Pathway options (CTAE, Fine Arts, World Language, etc.) preferred.


    Requires inter-division coordination; makes decisions and recommendations which affect the assigned division, but at times affects others outside of the assigned division.


    Valid driver’s license required.


    Analytical: supervisor is available to review established broad objectives; independent judgment is required to review and approve major recommendations.


    Requires regular, frequent contact with internal personnel of influence and decision-making responsibility to discuss issues of moderate importance; occasionally requires contact with
    officials at higher levels. Excellent interpersonal skills are required.

    Responsible for multiple functions of grant supervision with a high-level accountability for effective operation and results.


    Applies, recommends and implements technology concepts to improve the effectiveness of instruction and pedagogy.


    Responsibility for the Welfare of Others:Frequently (several times per week)


    Normal office and classroom settings (modeling, informal observations; coaching
    teachers; etc.). Requires frequent travel to off-site training locations and school site visits.


    Light duty - On most occasions sitting at a desk or table; intermittently sitting, standing,
    walking, or stooping. Light lifting or carrying; twenty (20) lbs. or less.


    NOTE: This is a grade 28, 200 day position that pays for experience up to a Step 8.
