The Career Advisor organizes workshops to develop the necessary skills associated with career development. Assists and counsels students with their transitions to employment. Being a Career Advisor develops student advising resources and facilitation guides. Supports on-campus recruiting efforts and programs involving student and employee interactions. In addition, Career Advisor typically requires a bachelor's degree or its equivalent. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Being a Career Advisor gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. Occasionally directed in several aspects of the work.     Job Summary: The Career Advisor provides comprehensive career development and professional employment services to students and alumni interested in various careers on a part-time basis through career-related advising, assessment, resume approval, individual student job search assistance, and development and delivery of workshops/classes on a variety of career topics.


    Additional Department Summary: This is a 9-month position.

    Functions as a Career Advisor for assigned student and/or alumni clients. Provides assistance with all career-related advising, assessment, resume approval, and individual student job search. Develops and delivers presentations on a variety of career topics. Provides outreach to faculty staff in assigned colleges, departments, academic programs, and student organizations. Assists with planning, development, and organization of special events, printed materials and web-based materials for the Career Center as needed. Increases knowledge and proficiency with campus recruiting software and review both print and web-based career resources. Coordinates with other Career Center staff and other University units when appropriate. Completes training related to laws and regulations that create a hospitable, respectful, and safe workplace.


    Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or higher and some career services, student services, and/or student advising experience.


    Skills and Knowledge: Strong interpersonal skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills including public speaking. Exceptional organizational skills. Knowledge of computers and various software programs especially those related to data management. Ability to collaborate with others for group presentations. Problem-solving skills are needed to establish effective timelines to achieve satisfactory results. Knowledge of current trends and future developments in the career services area. Creative thinking skills to publicize events and services provided by the Career Center. Demonstrated commitment to expanding multicultural knowledge, awareness, and skills as evidenced through demonstrating self-awareness; understanding and valuing others; demonstrating knowledge of social inequalities; interacting effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and experiences.


    Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Student Personnel, Higher Education, Business or related field. Two (2) years in a university setting working in Career Services.
