    Position Summary:
    The Executive Director of Career Initiatives will provide leadership and strategic direction for all facets of career at Willamette University. This career ecosystem includes oversight of the career teams in the Atkinson Graduate School of Management Career Management Office, PNCA Office of Career Design, School of Computing and Information Science, College of Law, and College of Arts and Sciences Career Development Office. The Executive Director is responsible for creating an integrated model of career support that allows for the unique needs and customized and tailored support to the various programs across the university in alignment with the University's Strategic Plan. As the leader of career initiatives, the Executive Director works collaboratively with faculty, staff, alumni, employers, donors, and university partners to develop high quality programs which guide students in their career development and helps them achieve postgraduate placement.

    The Director is also an instructor or co-instructor for career courses. These include: Practical Application for Careers and Enterprises ("PACE"), the EC/CC program's signature, first-year experiential course, Internship for Academic Credit, Career Decision Making and Job and Internship Search Strategies.

    This position requires strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. Incumbents must demonstrate superior knowledge of hiring and employment practices across the for profit, non-profit, and government sectors. Frequent travel to Portland is required to perform the essential duties of this position.

    JOB DESCRIPTION
    • Designs visionary career strategies for the unique needs of the diverse array of students at Willamette University. This includes optimizing staff alignment, career design, course design, and knowledge of career needs and outcome expectations for various degree pathways across the university.
    • Develops short and long-term strategies for high quality programming in the areas of career and job placement for the university.
    • Determines the critical skills students and alumni require to maximize their employability.
    • Designs, leads, and oversees programs and initiatives to support these goals for EC/CC, MBA-P, MSDS, PNCA, Law and CAS undergraduate students.
    • Hires, trains, and provides leadership to full-time staff, faculty career advisors, graduate assistants, interns, and work-study students for all career teams under career initiatives and provides a unified vision for collaboration and team sharing.
    • Oversees a comprehensive annual operating budget. Demonstrates superior stewardship of university resources.
    • Designs and delivers curricula in GSM 5108: PACE; evaluates student performance and establishes key performance indicators for student success and engagement.
    • Oversees the management of Internships for Academic Credit Including GSM 7251: Student Internship -a required, credited course for EC/CC students and IDS 194 and, Sets criteria for internship eligibility and approves all applications for credit-granting internships. Supervises and trains faculty career advisors in support of the summer internship program.
    • Leads University-wide employer relations efforts. Develops and communicates a strategic plan to develop and maintain existing employer partnerships. Visits current and prospective employers. Seeks general and exclusive job postings. Actively connects students and alumni to employers.
    • Collaborates with the Deans of the various colleges to ensure career development alignment and support for students in the designated schools and programs.
    • Collects and analyzes data from employers to demonstrate assurance of learning and career outcomes for all colleges across the university. Provides regular feedback around student performance, preparedness, and employability based on formal evaluations and assessments.
    • Plans and delivers career management curricula at student orientation and prospective student visit days. Develops engagement and onboarding processes for new students.
    • Works with university advancement and alumni relations to develop strong donor, alumni and volunteer networks and to engage and cultivate alumni and volunteers.
    • Collects, analyzes, and reports employment data per the MBA Career Services and Employers Alliance (MBACSEA) guidelines as well as NACE Guidelines
    • Guides career staff in Coaching and advising students in the development of their individual career plans. Assists students in identifying and applying to appropriate internships and full-time positions. Facilitates networking between students/alumni and employer-partners.
    • Collaborates with admissions and recruitment, alumni relations, faculty, and other administrators to create positive career learning outcomes for students.
    • Serves on University committees as needed.
    • Researches and stays current on employment trends and other career/employment related matters.
    • Other duties as assigned.



    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
    • Seven to ten years of experience in career management, talent management, corporate recruiting, or related experience.
    • Master's degree appropriate to the field.

    • Functioning with a high degree of autonomy;
    • Time management and project management skills;
    • Strong interpersonal, speaking, written, and listening, skills;
    • Working with multicultural and traditionally underrepresented populations;

    • Advising or coaching individuals;
    • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite, as well as experience with CRM databases;
    • Maintaining budgets;
    • Documenting processes and procedures.
    • General understanding of employment trends, opportunities, and organizations.



    Typical Work Schedule

    Typical work schedule is Monday - Friday, 8 am to 5 pm. Ability to work evenings and weekends and travel when needed. Willamette University has campuses in both Portland and Salem, Oregon, and the successful candidate will maintain a regular presence at both locations.

    Physical Demands & Working Conditions

    Typical work is performed indoors in a normal office environment.
