Carpenter constructs, maintains, and remodels buildings or related structures. Installs, fixes, or modifies all aspects of a building, including walls, ceilings, floors, and stairs, as well as related structures like railings, doors, windows, and air conditioning systems. Being a Carpenter follows blueprints and plans to ensure requirements and specifications are met. Observes all worksite safety procedures and guidelines. Additionally, Carpenter inspects buildings to determine repair that needs to be done. An apprenticeship and/or formal training may be required. Typically requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Carpenter works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. The Hinckley Company, known for building and servicing, strong, seaworthy and beautiful yachts is seeking an experienced Carpenter for our production facility in Trenton, Maine.
Essential Duties
1. Transfer dimensions to marine plywood and other construction materials using tape measure, square and marking/layout devices.
2. Make accurate cuts of wood and other materials using table and chop saws and other related power tools.
3. Skilled in reading and interpreting blueprints.
4. Layout, cut and assemble boat parts, such as doors, paneling, boxes, rails, and trim.
5. Good working knowledge of most woodworking joints in the marine industry, such as scarf, sill splice, lap, finger, and dovetail.
6 Skilled knowledge and use of epoxies and vinyl ester resins or other adhesives to bond parts.
7. Understands yachting terminology, local and industry, e.g., port/starboard, gump (trim molding) and bung (wood plug).
8. Use reading and writing, adding and subtracting of whole numbers and fractions.
9. Follow defined instructions and procedures in performance of tasks.
10. Follow prescribed safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe, clean work area.
11. All work to be performed and manufactured to Hinckley quality standards.
12. Perform other related duties as necessary.
