The Artist-in-Residence is a non-tenure track faculty position appointed on the basis of outstanding professional attainments, creative accomplishments, and recognition in his or her specific field and renders specified service to the University including lectures, performances, demonstrations, master classes, and consultations.
Description of Primary Duties
Teach 4 courses per semester (24 contact hours) in the 3D Studies Area, with a focus of all levels of ceramics. One course release per semester may be granted for serving the 3D Studies Area for assistance with facility oversight and development.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
The minimum acceptable qualifications for the position of Artist-in-Residence are prescribed in the Faculty Handbook. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.
Additional Qualifications
MFA in Art (60 hours) or equivalent terminal degree in a relevant discipline; knowledge of a variety of traditional and digital tools, processes, and techniques related to teaching Ceramics courses, including but not limited to: basic wheel throwing, hand building, mold making, slip-casting, glaze calculation, maintenance, and firing of electric and gas reduction kilns.
Since the 3D Studies Area houses ceramics, sculpture, and metals, candidates who demonstrate an openness to interdisciplinary and collaborative practices by students, who can incorporate innovative pedagogy, with a broad vision of contemporary art is expected.
