    Physical Requirements:

    The employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop and reach. The employee must frequently lift and/or carry up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move 40 pounds or more. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to focus.

    Qualifications:

    Certification by the American College of Nurse Midwives, the ACNM Certification Council, or a successor organization, American Midwifery Certification Board; possess a license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) to practice nurse-midwifery in the State of West Virginia. Maintain current RN license for the state of West Virginia. Acquire and maintain privileges as an independent allied health professional at Charleston Area Medical Center. If eligible, maintain prescriptive authority through the WV Board of Nurses.

    Basic Function:

    Responsible for the provision of nurse-midwifery care, including antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, neonatal and gynecologic care.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team to provide comprehensive obstetric and gynecologic health care. Provide primary care based on practice guidelines. May include male family member follow-up as indicated.
    • Obtain comprehensive history, perform a comprehensive physical exam and identify deviations from normal. Order approved diagnostic tests, lab tests and medications as indicated. Perform waived and microscopy laboratory testing as indicated. Analyze, interpret and synthesize data and apply information according to the management process.
    • Complete all required documentation.
    • Independently manage prenatal, intrapartum, delivery, postpartum, normal newborn, family planning and gynecological care of medically uncomplicated patients at any FamilyCare HealthCenter and FamilyCare OB/GYN & Birth Center site or at Women & Children's Hospital. Consult, collaboratively manage, and/or refer deviations from normal as appropriate. Initiate emergency treatment as necessary.
    • Must be available to respond in person to Women & Children's Hospital and/or FamilyCare OB/GYN & Birth Center within 30 minutes of receiving a call.
    • Participate in patient education programs and further continuity of educational concepts into all phases of reproductive health and primary care.
    • Participate in research, educational activities and the teaching of students.
    • Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills.
    • Maintain certification in Basic Life Support (CPR) and Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP).
    • Attend clinical and staff meetings.
    • Participate in hospital committee, nurse midwifery section, ACNM Chapter and other professional meetings and events as a representative of FamilyCare and the profession of nurse-midwifery.
    • Perform administrative duties as assigned.
    • Observe all health and safety requirements.
    • Demonstrate positive customer service and co-worker relations.
    • Participate in the continuous quality improvement activities of the organization.
    • Perform work in a cost-effective manner.
    • Perform related duties as assigned.
