    • This position is a 9-month (168 duty days) Faculty A, level 5 position. 
    • Screening will begin ASAP and continue until the position(s) is filled.
    • Start date to be determined, but as soon as practicable after the hiring/interview process. Tentative start date: August 5th, 2024.

    Salary and Benefits: This is a full-time, benefited Faculty A, 5 level position. Starting salary range: $63,805.00 - $74,440.00/annually, depending upon experience.

    Job Summary: 

    The Instructor, Welding position is a full-time benefited position responsible for instruction and development of curriculum in the School of Business, Agriculture & Technical Studies. As a member of the Welding team, this position will work closely with the other faculty to build a robust curriculum for our students. 

     

    Laramie County Community College is dedicated to student success and aspires to develop world-class community college faculty.  The College’s faculty positions have the primary responsibilities of teaching assigned courses, holding regular office hours, being available for students, advising, and collaborating on departmental objectives. In addition, all faculty work in alignment with the College’s mission, vision, and values to continuously improve as professional educators and experts in their field. Faculty further serve the College in collaborative and collegial relationships across the institution. All faculty positions may be required to serve the College on any LCCC campus and/or in LCCC’s online environment. Student demand may also dictate instructional assignments during evenings and/or on the weekends.

    Essential Functions

    Essential Functions: – this position is Exempt, i.e., is not eligible for compensatory or overtime pay provisions of the FLSA.  This listing of essential duties is not all-inclusive, but representative; other duties may be assigned).

    60% of time

  • Maximize student engagement and success by working with and understanding each student and their different learning styles.
    • Prepare and implement effective and inclusive teaching and supportive learning activities.
    • Provide hands on teaching demos
    • Practice welding processes and weldments.
  • 15% of time

  • Demonstrate professionalism in the classroom and welding shop by being on time, communicating with other faculty members, and applying proper communication with students and stakeholders.
    • Instilling professionalism in students by displaying commitment to the profession.
  • 10% of time

  • Engage diversity in the classroom by treating everyone with respect and understanding differences in students learning abilities and learning styles.
    • Have a set standard for the quality of welds being produced but learning how to teach to different learning styles.
    • Teach students how to problem solve while using friendly, cooperative, helpful behaviors.
  •  

    5% of time

  • Apply competency-based design by basing instruction around up to date welding codes, procedures and overall stakeholder needs.
    • Research new and updated welding codes and procedures to maximize student outcomes.
  • 5% of time

  • Serve the institution by collaborating and actively reflecting on responsibilities to positively contribute to one’s discipline, Pathway, the College and the greater community.
    • Actively participate in the Welding Advisory Committee
    • Engage in student clubs as an advisor or committee member.
  • 5% of time

  • Maintain LCCC Welding Program’s standards and expectations for our students by helping to ensure student are getting the proper instruction they need to perform the asks asked of them.
    • Assist in the design and implementation of academic programs aligned with current or emerging community, state, or national needs as appropriate.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    All LCCC faculty are expected to demonstrate proficiency in the competency areas appropriate to their faculty level as defined in the College’s Administrative Procedure 2.17.1P. In addition, requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position include.

    • Professional knowledge and ability within the discipline of assigned instruction.
    • Ability to continuously monitor and research changes in the industry and field of study and to adapt program offerings to meet these standards.
    • Ability to work in an environment of collaboration, cooperation, sensitivity and confidentiality in working with the public, students, colleagues and staff in both the classroom and campus
    • Skill in applying the appropriate teaching techniques and methods in classroom and/or online
    • Ability to teach course content that is consistent with the official course outline of record and use pertinent course materials at an appropriate level.
    • Ability to establish a student-instructor relationship conducive to learning and promote active involvement of students in learning
    • Advanced working knowledge and ability with personal computing applications – specifically Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint), Adobe products (e.g., Reader, Professional).
    • Knowledge of basic office equipment including (but not limited to) personal computer and associated peripherals, fax machine, multi-line telephone, voice recorders, and other electronic devices.
    • Demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
    • Ability to effectively and professionally execute the essential functions of this position with proven capabilities in establishing appropriate professional rapport, communicating with courtesy and tact, accurately determine other’s needs, collecting necessary information, and follow-through when requested.
    • Ability to travel when necessary.
    • Ability to read and interpret instructions in oral, written, or diagrammatical form (e.g., a flow chart of a process) and consider possible applications of discipline related literature and publications.
    • Ability to maintain appropriate composure and necessary confidentiality with regard to both past and current employee, student, and donor data; documents; issues; etc., and respect privacy needs of employees, students, donors
    • The ability to comply with highly inflexible deadlines is required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position; there will be multiple occurrences of sudden, urgent task completion required

    Physical/Mental Demands:

    • The essential functions of this position require the ability to work in an industrial setting including but not limited to working with/on welding equipment, cutting equipment, in confined spaces, electrical equipment, complex machines, and chemicals; appropriate safety precautions, equipment, and procedures must be utilized at all times
    • Must be able to drive vehicles, and operate large complex maintenance equipment
    • Exposure to potential hazardous materials, chemicals, and flammable materials; appropriate personal protection equipment (PPE) must be utilized
    • Exposure to extreme temperatures and weather conditions for extended periods of time; appropriate safety equipment and procedures must be utilized at all times
    • An employee in this position must follow OSHA, regulations, and college safety practices and procedures at all times
    • This position may require to climb ladders, maneuver in confined spaces, squat, crawl, bend, twist, kneel, sit, stand, and extend arms over head
    • To successfully perform the essential functions of this position, an employee must be able to maintain appropriate composure and necessary confidentiality with regard to both past and current employee, student, and donor data; documents; issues; etc., and respect privacy needs of employees, students, donors
    • The ability to comply with highly inflexible deadlines is required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position; there will be multiple occurrences of sudden, urgent task completion required
    • While performing the essential functions of this position a variable work schedule may be required including long workdays, evenings, and weekends as needed
    • There may be occurrences of interacting with employees and/or students, past employees and/or students, members of the general public, and others who express opinions, may exhibit strong emotions, which will require the employee to interact professionally, diplomatically, and appropriately in such situations
    • While performing the essential duties of this position, an employee would frequently be required to move around the assigned work areas as well as within hallways, meeting rooms, and other parts of the campus facilities
    • There may be multiple/daily instances of prolonged sitting, standing, and personal computer use, which would include keyboard and/or mouse usage as well as viewing a computer monitor
    • An employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 30 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds to perform essential position functions. For lifts exceeding 50lbs, an assisted lift technique is required
    • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus
    • The overall work environment requires the mental ability to shift focal point quickly due to interruptions; an employee must be able to mentally track multiple projects and tasking as well
    • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; however, there may be unexpected instances of somewhat loud sounds

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

    Minimum Qualifications:   

    • Certifications: AWS D10.12 OR ASME Section IX (6G pipe test on 6" schedule 80 pipe) OR AAS/AS Degree from an accredited institution in a related field of study.
    • Six (6) years of work experience as a professional welding owner/operator, trainer or educator
    • Comprehensive understanding of welding to include thermal cutting and oxyfuel, shielded metal arc, gas metal arc, gas tungsten arc welding skills along with basic pipe welding
    • A working knowledge of OSHA, welding safety procedures, and training specific welding skills set IAW national certification standards
    • Valid Driver’s License and ability to be insured by the College’s insurance provider

    All LCCC Faculty are required to meet the minimum faculty qualifications as defined within the College’s Administrative Procedure 2.7P. 

     

    Preferred Qualifications:   

    • BS/BAS Degree and eight (8) years of work experience as a welding owner/operator, trainer or educator to include prior teaching experience at the high school and/or post-secondary level
    • Experience with web-based learning management systems
    • Two or more years of college-level teaching experience
    • Two or more years of work experience in an applied field
