The recently appointed UCI Vice Chancellor for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Dyonne Bergeron is cultivating her leadership team. She is looking for exceptional talent to join her in elevating UCI inclusive excellence initiatives to a new level. The Assistant Vice Chancellor for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (AVC-EDI) serves as key strategist with the Vice Chancellor for EDI in initiating and developing new strategic direction, long- and short-range plans, and innovative initiatives. Reporting directly to the Vice Chancellor, the AVC-EDI assists in implementing the Vice Chancellor's vision and goals for the Office of Inclusive Excellence, working in close collaboration with senior university officials. The AVC-EDI plays a critical support role in strategic planning, decision-making, and execution of decisions, serving as a member of the Vice Chancellor’s senior leadership group and other advisory groups as assigned. The AVC-EDI advises Vice Chancellor, serves as liaison with other senior university officials, represents the Vice Chancellor in public forums, and coordinates internal and externals partnerships. Responsible for effective and efficient management of the operations of the Office of Inclusive Excellence, including the areas of communications, finance, administrative operations, human resources, etc. Represents the Vice Chancellor in all manner of situations with tact and diplomacy and requires a dedication to consultation and consensus building. The AVC-EDI performs a wide range of duties requiring sensitivity, independent judgment, organizational skills, flexibility, and strict confidentiality. Must have the ability to articulate the vision, mission and values of the Office of Inclusive Excellence as well as interpret and implement procedures, processes, and policies. Develops, coordinates, and leads a variety of initiatives either on behalf of the Vice Chancellor or from the assigned portfolio of responsibility. Coordinates small-to-large scale events, such as speaker series, conferences, etc. Has high level authority to make official commitments and to broadly represent the VC-EDI’s interests across the organization. Responds to issues with little or no precedence. May manage and administer independent EDI programs, typically with organization-wide impact. Establishes diversity, equity and inclusion objectives and work plans, and delegates assignments to others. Responsible for managing, preparing, administering, and directing resources. Reviews and approves recommendations for diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility programs. Involved in developing, modifying and executing policies that affect immediate operation(s) and has a campus-wide effect. Oversees diversity, equity and inclusion programs and staff. Manages the coordination of the activities of all university programs, with overall responsibility for results, including costs, methods, staffing and human resources-related actions. Demonstrates an advanced knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion principles and practices in an educational setting or a large, complex organization.

Required:
• Minimum 8 years of direct experience as a senior administrator or in support of senior administrators at a college or university or a similar complex, matrixed organization. • Minimum 5 years of direct experience in the field of equity, diversity, and inclusion
• Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Demonstrates advanced knowledge of diversity, equity and inclusion principles and practices, thorough knowledge of the business operations of the campus or medical center. Maintains a thorough understanding of the goals of the campus and ways in which this position can support and lead areas related to those goals to address diversity, equity and inclusion related matters. Possesses strong data analysis skills and critical thinking required to manage diverse and complex equity, diversity and inclusion y and affirmative action programs and initiatives for the organization as well as those needed to present findings and develop and present recommendations that are significant to the campus. Highly skilled in effectively managing assigned equity, diversity and inclusion programs and employees. Demonstrates ability to communicate and interact effectively with all levels in the diverse and multi-cultural environment of the campus. Demonstrates an advanced level of political and organizational acumen. Provides written analyses and oral presentations to management. Demonstrates advanced ability to synthesize large amounts of information and draw reasonable conclusions. Proven effectiveness in conceiving and implementing broad and complex initiatives that have advanced an equity or belonging agenda. Advanced skills to effectively lead highly significant engagements from inception to conclusion.

Demonstrated knowledge of all relevant university policies and procedures. Demonstrated experience in promoting inclusive excellence and belonging as related to functions, preferably within a higher education setting. Working knowledge of the organizational environment of higher education and large research universities to understand client priorities, issues, motivations, and constraints.
