Reports To: Firestone Endowment Chaplain

Status: Exempt, 10-month Residential, Teaching Faculty

Position Summary

The Hill School seeks a full-time Associate Chaplain with a start date of August 2024. The primary responsibilities of this professional will be to love and serve the people of The Hill, nourishing and strengthening them for this life and the life to come. The ideal candidate will be familiar with a wide variety of religious and philosophical teachings and traditions as part of being comfortable teaching three sections in the Department of Religious Studies and Philosophy.

Responsibilities and Qualifications

Ideally, a candidate will possess at least 3 years of relevant experience. This individual will assist the Firestone Endowment Chaplain in providing pastoral care and spiritual leadership to the students, faculty, staff, and alumni of The Hill community, and in supervising the School's spiritual life programs. The Associate Chaplain will also be expected to undertake responsibilities that are normally associated with a boarding school, such as serving on various school committees and participating in the school's co-curricular and residential programs. Experience and demonstrated success working with diverse student communities is preferred, but not required. A bachelor's degree is required; a Master's degree is preferred. Must be ordained or in the process toward ordination. Start date for this position is August 2024.

More specifically, responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to the following:

• Preside and preach, as appropriate, at the School's public worship
• With the Director of Vocal Music and the School Organist, advise the Chaplain in planning and preparing the School's public worship, taking particular responsibility for some discrete element such as training of student speakers
• Assist the Chaplain in visiting students in the Wellness Center.
• Assis the Chaplain in visiting students and faculty, as appropriate, at the Pottstown Hospital and/or other local hospitals.
• In consultation, where appropriate, with family clergy or other spiritual advisers, assist the Chaplain in ministering to pastoral emergencies in the lives of individual students and faculty.
• Working, wherever possible, with the Director of Counseling, assist the Chaplain in providing pastoral counseling for individuals and faculty.
• Fulfill denominational requirements for specialized training and general professional development.
• Take part, as appropriate, in Pottstown ministerial activities, the Association of Boarding Schools, the Center for Spiritual and Ethical education, and similar organizations.
